NIST And Toyota Speakers Added To 2007 NCMS-AMT Technology Forum Agenda

ANN ARBOR, MI - June 13, 2007. Two new speakers have been confirmed for the 2007 NCMS-AMT Technology Forum being held August 13-15 in Baltimore, Maryland. This year's forum "Shift Happens" will address the seismic changes that are shaking the manufacturing landscape (alternative energy, sustainability, nanomanufacturing, off-shoring) and be held in conjunction with AMT, the Association for Manufacturing Technology. The forum will specifically address how government and industry can collaborate to drive technological innovation.

Dr. Robert Sienkiewicz, NIST - Advanced Technology Program (ATP)
Dr. Sienkiewicz currently serves as Acting Supervisory Economist in ATP's Economic Assessment Office (EAO) and is responsible for managing its Economic Analysis and Survey Team. The Advanced Technology Program recently held a competition and is reviewing proposals in all technology areas with a focus on four broad cross cutting areas of national interest: 1) Technologies for Advanced and Complex Systems, 2) Challenges in Advanced Materials and Devices, 3) 21st Century Manufacturing, and 4) Nanotechnology. The program provides cost-shared multi-year funding to single companies and to industry-led joint ventures to accelerate the development and dissemination of challenging, high risk technologies with the potential for significant commercial payoffs and widespread benefits for the nation. Dr. Sienkiewicz will discuss the program and how it encourages industry to take on high technical risk projects with high payoffs for industry and the country at large.

Kevin Butt, General Manager - Environmental Affairs - Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, "Sustainability - The Next Competitive Advantage"

Toyota recently announced its Second Consolidated Five-Year Environmental Action Plan (2007-2011), setting new environmental goals for all phases of the vehicle lifecycle and addressing themes of energy, climate change, recycling, resource conservation, substances of concern, atmospheric quality and environmental management.
