National Football League (NFL) Hopefuls Undergo Medical Screening Using Barco Diagnostic Imaging Displays

Indiana University Health selects Barco medical imaging displays to screen athletes at the annual NFL Scouting Combine in preparation for the NFL draft.

Duluth, Georgia USA - Medical imaging specialist Barco will join the excitement at Lucas Oil Stadium when more than 300 of the nation's top Draft eligible college football players undergo an intensive evaluation at the annual NFL Scouting Combine (National Invitational Camp) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Barco is providing several dozen of its industry-leading medical imaging displays for use by radiologists and team medical staffs who will conduct MRI, CT, ultrasounds, nuclear imaging studies and cardiac evaluations to assess the athletes' health.

Top executives, coaching staffs, player and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation's top college football players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft. This intense four-day job interview includes a bevy of tests, screenings and drills designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of players.

Because medical examinations are the Combine's number one priority top-notch imaging equipment is a must. Barco is providing several Coronis Fusion 6MP DL wide-screen color display systems, Coronis 2MP color displays, and MDRC 2120 clinical review displays.

"The NFL Draft is a high stakes game so it's imperative the best tools are available to precisely evaluate a player's physical condition and abilities. Through accurate assessments, the teams can then determine how well a player fits their needs," said Dave Hennon, Director, Radiology & Radiation Oncology IS at Indiana University Health. "Barco's displays have been a good fit for us; they provide the highest image resolution and stability, multi-modality imaging options and a wide-angle viewing experience. We use them throughout our system because of their outstanding quality and reliability."

In addition to medical assessments, athletes will also participate in a variety of psychological and physical tests, as well as formal and informal interviews with the teams' top executives, coaches and scouts. Test results are aggregated into detailed reports that create a multi-faceted portrait of the athlete's health status and capabilities, which team owners, executives and coaches then use to rank players in their final preparation for the NFL Draft.

"We are thrilled to support IU Health in their partnership with the NFL Scouting Combine, and proud to offer our most technologically advanced medical imaging displays to help their physicians make the best diagnostic evaluations of tomorrow's professional football players," commented Mike Sklar, VP Medical Imaging for Barco North America.

The NFL Scouting Combine will be held February 23 - March 1, 2011 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. This event is closed to the general public and participants may attend by invitation only. Media credentials are required in advance.
