MTC Technologies and Northrop Grumman Team Win Production Contract for Joint Threat Emitter

DAYTON, Ohio, June 19 / -- The team of MTC Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MTCT) and Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a $19.3 million production contract over a two-year period for the new Joint Threat Emitter (JTE) system for the U.S. Air Force.

As the prime contractor, MTC provides oversight for the program. In addition to providing engineering, logistics, and parts supply support, MTC will provide training in the operation and maintenance of the system. The Company will also develop the USAF Integrated Electronic Technical Manual for the long-term maintenance of the system.

The JTE System was designed by Northrop Grumman's Amherst Systems business unit, and will be manufactured at the company's facility in Buffalo, N.Y. The initial production option is for six JTE systems and accompanying technical data, with potential options for additional systems, technology upgrades and interim contractor support.

The Joint Threat Emitter is a multi-threat, high-fidelity simulator that realistically simulates multiple types of surface-to-air missile (SAM) and anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) radar systems. The JTE accurately simulates enemy integrated air defense systems to train combat aircrews to defeat or avoid SAM and AAA threats in a war-like training environment. The JTE will replace aging simulators on the training ranges and provide improved multi- functional threat capability that can be economically reconfigured to simulate emerging threats worldwide.

Mark Brown, MTC Technologies President and Chief Operations Officer stated, "MTC is pleased that the government has approved the full-scale production of this system that is so critical to support the training of America's Warfighters. MTC has worked hard with our JTE partner, Northrop Grumman, to develop and field this system which will provide significant new features that take advantage of advances in training technologies. We believe that the ability to train in a realistic combat environment will save lives whenever our aircrews fly into harm's way."

John Stanfill, President of Northrop Grumman's Amherst Systems business unit, added, "The JTE provides an advanced capability to train combat aircrews under realistic battlefield conditions. We are very pleased that the Air Force has approved the JTE system for production and look forward to working with our partner MTC and the Air Force as we field this important capability to enhance operational readiness."

The first JTE pre-production simulator was installed at Saylor Creek Air Combat Range at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. The simulator system is fully operational and has been successfully used to engage F-15, F-16 and A-10 aircrews in training missions.
