Encouraging Design Engineering Students to Pick PM



The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) has expanded its educational program to encourage design engineering students to Pick PM (powder metallurgy). The program is aimed at informing students about current guidelines for selecting the PM process to manufacture cost-effective precision metal parts. PM parts are used in automobiles and trucks, off-road equipment, oil well drilling, cutting tools, aircraft engines, and bio/medical products.

MPIF, the trade association for the metal powder producing and consuming industries, offers multimedia educational materials for use by college educators at no charge. The selection of materials includes an 18-minute video, PowerPoint Presentation, Design Guide, and the primer Fundamentals of Powder Metallurgy. The Design Guide contains extensive illustrations, charts, and photos discussing the basics of conventional press & sinter technology, metal injection molding, and isostatic pressing techniques.
