Motorola Enables RST Communication's Delivery of Fiber-Based Ultra-Fast Broadband and Advanced Video Services

Communications and energy service provider RST Communications selects Motorola for its proven, flexible GPON fiber-to-the-home solutions portfolio

HORSHAM, Pa. -- Motorola Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced that RST Communications has selected Motorola's gigabit passive optical network (GPON) solution to deliver new and advanced video and broadband services throughout its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network. RST will use Motorola's GPON solution to drive broadband IP voice, video and data delivery as well as energy management applications throughout its customer base in North and South Carolina.

As a leading provider of FTTH technologies in North America, Motorola's GPON solution is designed to provide new competitive local exchange carriers (CLEC) like RST, with powerful new broadband services for its residential and business subscribers, and enable smart energy services such as remote meter reading. On the video front, RST can rely on Motorola's systems expertise in all forms of IP video service delivery and comprehensive portfolio of outdoor and advanced line of integrated indoor optical network terminals (ONT) to support just about any combination of video and broadband services residential and business customers demand.

"We knew Motorola's expertise and innovation in ultra broadband technologies could quickly help move our business forward. We trust the Motorola team to deliver the highest quality GPON technology and to apply their experience from their worldwide fiber deployments to create a robust network foundation for our voice, video and Internet service offerings," said Randy Revels of RST Communications. "Not only do we believe we are making the right investment for our needs today; we know that Motorola can support us as market demands and FTTH technology evolves in the future."

"Competitive local exchange carriers are turning to GPON-based FTTH solutions to provide communities with the advanced video and ultra-fast bandwidth services that differentiate their offerings from others in the marketplace," said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, Motorola Inc. "RST is at the forefront of the transition to next-generation IP voice, video and broadband service delivery, and we are pleased they chose Motorola's proven GPON solution to enable the delivery of new and advanced residential and business services.

Motorola's GPON portfolio includes the Motorola AXS2000 optical line terminal (OLT), the Motorola ONT1400GT2 single-family optical network terminal (ONT), ONT1400GTI indoor single-family ONT and ONT1500 designed specifically for small office applications. Motorola's FTTP solutions inherently support the latest in IPTV services and capabilities and easily integrate with Motorola's full line of IP set-tops.
