Miller Introduces Complete DC Sub Arc Solutions

With the introduction of the Sub Arc DC Series, Miller offers its first power sources optimized specifically for the DC sub arc process. A digital controller capable of storing 12 programs, a four-wheel drive tractor with digital control for rock-steady travel speeds and complete system components round out the line. Miller provides complete system solutions to meet sub arc needs.

Highlights/Key Facts
o Miller Sub Arc DC 650 and Sub Arc DC 1000 have been optimized specifically for sub arc process and provide the arc characteristics favored by the industry.
o Plug and Play system components allow distributors and users to easily enter the sub arc field and achieve superior results.
o Sub Arc Tractor provides rock-steady travel speeds, even when running on uneven floors. It can easily be disassembled and passed through a manhole.
o HDC 1500 programmable controller stores up to 12 programs, allowing the unit to perform continuous multiple passes with different parameters.

APPLETON, Wis., July 30, 2008 Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has reentered the DC sub arc arena with the introduction of two new Sub Arc DC Series power sources, a heavy-duty, four-wheel drive Sub Arc Tractor and complete sub arc system components. The Sub Arc DC 650 and Sub Arc DC 1000 are Millers first DC power sources specifically optimized for the sub arc process and have been designed to produce the arc characteristics preferred in the industry. The sub arc components, available separately or mounted on Millers Sub Arc Tractor, provide plug and play functionality, allowing the user to get optimal results quickly and with little effort.

Miller Product Manager Quotes
Not only do we offer sub arc solutions, but weve done it in such a way that it will meet the high expectations of a Miller customer. Customers will find the same quality, ingenuity and reliability in our sub arc systems as they will in all Miller products.

Ken Fisher, product manager, Miller Electric Mfg. Co.
We conducted months of studies to develop the current arc. Although the Sub Arc DC series will perform other processes, its control circuit was developed specifically for the sub arc process.

Ken Fisher, product manager, Miller Electric Mfg. Co.
Were good at the system approach. The Miller Sub Arc Tractor and sub arc system components are designed to offer distributors and end users easy entry into the sub arc field as well as to easily upgrade older systems and achieve superior results.

Additional release information

DC Sub Arc Power Sources
The Miller Sub Arc DC 650 (650 A, 100% duty cycle) and Sub Arc DC 1000 (1000 A, 100% duty cycle) power sources feature arc characteristics that have been optimized specifically for the sub arc process, while also providing Air Carbon Arc Cutting and Gouging, Stick and Flux Cored capabilities. The Sub Arc series arc control provides a stable and consistent output regardless of electrode size or type or flux used.

The Sub Arc DC series features an internal digital voltage control, allowing the operator to preset weld voltage before striking an arc. When used with the Miller HDC 1500 DX controller, current/amperage can also be preset. The Sub Arc DC power sources also allow the use of external voltage sensing leads for accurate monitoring of the arc voltage. The ability to preset and maintain accurate voltage eliminates the guesswork from setting parameters and ensures day-to-day consistency.

Millers Line Voltage Compensation technology ensures that the Sub Arc DCs output will not vary even if primary input power varies by +/- 10 percent. The Sub Arc DC also features Miller's Fan on Demand which reduces noise, power consumption and contaminants pulled into the machine by turning on the fan only when required by the thermostatically controlled circuit. This is different from competitive equipment that turns on the fan whenever the contactor is energized.

Sub Arc Tractor and System Components
Millers Sub Arc Tractor can easily connect to Millers Sub Arc DC or Summit Arc 1000 AC sub arc power source. The four-wheel-drive, self-propelled tractor features digital readouts with pre-settable travel speeds, which are precisely controlled by a microprocessor for steady travel speed even on slight inclines. Chain-driven front and back wheels allow the tractor to better maintain speed on uneven floors. A manual clutch enables freewheeling of the tractor for easy positioning. All of the arms and support posts use tool-less clamps for easy adjustment or removal. When dismantled, the tractor can be easily passed through a 24-in. manhole.

The Sub Arc Tractor comes with either a HDC 1500 DX (digital) or HDC 1500 A (analog) controller. The digital controller will store up to 12 programs, allowing the system to complete multiple passes with different settings without needing to stop to reset parameters. All the operator has to do is change the program number and hit the start button.

The Sub Arc Tractor also comes with a RAD-400 drive motor, 25-lb. capacity flux hopper with valve, wire reel, torch, remote start/stop control, tractor guide rolls and wire straightener.

System components are available separately for stationary mounting and can be used with other manufacturers equipment; however, Miller sub arc components are designed to work together for high quality results with little effort.
