Miller Announces $5,000 Scholarship Winner
Utah welding student wins scholarship sweepstakes
APPLETON, Wis. (May 14, 2019) — Miller Electric Mfg. LLC, a leading worldwide manufacturer of Miller® brand arc welding equipment, is pleased to announce the winner of the $5,000 Weld-Mask™ Scholarship Sweepstakes. After purchasing a Weld-Mask compact auto-darkening lens and submitting his entry form, Dalton Van was randomly selected to receive a $5,000 scholarship toward his welding education. A Miller representative will present the check to Van at 1 p.m. on May 15 at Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech).
A senior at Union High School in Roosevelt, Utah, Van is already a skilled welder. He has been taking night welding classes at UBTech since his sophomore year.
Van represented UBTech at the National Leadership and Skill Conference (SkillsUSA) in Louisville, Kentucky, where he earned a silver medal in the welding competition. He also qualified for the 2019 national competition this June. He will graduate this spring with both a high school diploma and a 990 advanced welding certificate from UBTech and plans to attend Utah State University Eastern to study welding engineering.
“This is why the scholarship means so much to me,” Van says. “I don’t know that I could afford secondary schooling without the help of scholarships.”
The $5,000 Weld-Mask Scholarship Sweepstakes is part of the Miller Building a Welder program. This exciting initiative is focused on introducing individuals to welding as a career option, as well as inspiring and encouraging students and teachers. Building a Welder is just one way that Miller is helping grow the welding workforce and passion for the craft.
