MH1 Standard on Pallets, Slip Sheets, and Other Bases for Unit-Loads Now Available from Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA)



Charlotte, NC - February 12, 2007) Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) announces the availability of MH1 - 2005 - Pallet, Slip Sheets, and Other Bases for Unit Loads. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) authorized the transfer of the work from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to MHIA in 2006.

The MH1 standard covers pallets used in the unit-load method of assembling, stacking, storing, handling, and transporting materials and products. This standard defines terminology and nomenclature associated with pallets; applies to pallets irrespective of components and materials used in their fabrication; provides a series of recommended pallet dimensions and sizes; describes procedures for pallet sampling, inspection, and testing; indicates procedures for designating pallet requirements; and defines the U.S. Department of Defense pallet specifications.

The MH2 Standard is designed for those who manufacturer, repair, sell, specify, purchase, and/or use pallets. In addition, this standard should be of specific interest to anyone selling or supplying unit-load materials to the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).

In addition to serving as the Secretariat of the ANSI accredited MH1 committee, MHIA will serve the same role for the US Technical Advisory Group (USTAG) that develops U.S. positions for the international Technical Committee 51 (ISO/TC51) on "Pallets for Unit Load Method of Materials Handling."
