Metrobility Teams with Sunrise Telecom to Demo Ethernet Services Loopback to Service Providers

Merrimack, NH - October 11, 2005 - Metrobility Optical Systems will be demonstrating Service Level Agreement (SLA) verification through its patent-pending Logical Services Loopback, a non-disruptive, in-service loopback, at the upcoming Ethernet Expo Show in New York City, October 12 - 14.

Metrobility's patent-pending Logical Services Loopback (LSL) overcomes the end-to-end service verification challenge by looping back specific frames based on a well-known destination MAC addresses. Sunrise Telecom will provide the traffic generation for the demo. Using the Sunrise Telecom Sunset MTT handheld test head, traffic will be transported across a representative Service Provider-like network from Metrobility's Ethernet access device, the E-Services NID, at one end of the network to a second E-Services NID at the other end of the network.

As a non-disruptive loopback, the Logical Services Loopback provides a method by which service providers can monitor reachability, round trip delay, delay variation and frame loss of Ethernet frames across VLANs and different service classes. LSL will qualify the service end-to-end and support SLA verification without interrupting service delivery.

Logical Services Loopback addresses a critical requirement to test a specific network path without bringing down the network. Because LSL is embedded in the Metrobility Ethernet access device at the customer site, the embedded test function is application-specific and eliminates the need to physically attach a test head device to test a reported problem. Attached specialized, or standalone, test heads normally disrupts service delivery to the end user, or subscriber. External test-heads which are used closer to the Central Office can impact multiple customer services and may not measure and accurately report on the end-to-end service.

Light Reading's Ethernet Expo opens at the Grand Hyatt in New York City on October 12. This three-day conference will present insights from leading carriers and what appeals to them about Ethernet.
