Metrobility Optical Systems Sees the Future of Network Element Management

Merrimack, NH, October 24, 2005 - Metrobility Optical Systems, a leading optical networking company providing carrier Ethernet connectivity, access, wavelength multiplexing and management solutions, today announced its next-generation element management system (EMS) software. NetBeacon® ESP supports FCAPS (fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security) management objectives for network management to help network administrators intuitively and securely deploy, provision, and manage large, geographically dispersed carrier Ethernet networks.

NetBeacon ESP creates a management environment that enables Ethernet service provisioning, end-to-end service assurance, and secure access in an extensible, scalable and hierarchical EMS platform.

NetBeacon ESP's software architecture supports fault detection and isolation to enable proactive maintenance that can decrease network outages and increase customer uptime. Visual and audible alarms ensure that network problems are identified quickly. Alarm notification may be sent to assigned technicians via email, phone or pager.

An intuitive GUI interface creates simplified views of the network as logical entities showing connectivity between sites, and as physical entities, showing all elements' physical locations. NetBeacon ESP eases provisioning by automatically discovering Metrobility elements within the defined network, initiating an automatic software update when new hardware is detected, automatically updating the inventory database, and monitoring each element for traps, alarms and events.

The system supports accounting management by tracking usage for each service based on VLAN, port, or MAC address. A comprehensive report is available based on the performance measurement data contained in a database.

By monitoring user traffic, NetBeacon ESP provides administrators the ability to manage performance levels by identifying bottlenecks and potential problems. NetBeacon collects quality of line information from RMON Group 1 statistics, and provides end-to-end SLA using the company's patent-pending Logical Services Loopback (LSL).

Network administrators can secure access to the network by the ability to fine tuning permissions by user based on existing company policies. Using a choice of three authentication modes, including RADIUS, administrators can control access to resources to eliminate unauthorized changes to network configurations. Administrators can assign permissions by element and by function regardless of physical location. Authorized users can manage each Metrobility device from any designated NetBeacon management station to provision services, monitor performance, and respond to alarms.

"As service providers continue to increase their deployment of Ethernet, we discovered that the ability to manage large numbers of devices presented a daunting problem for the customer," stated Alex Saunders, president and CEO of Metrobility Optical Systems. "With NetBeacon ESP, we are providing the solution that our largest customers have requested - the ability to securely monitor, manage and troubleshoot a large number of our devices across a wide area network."

NetBeacon ESP will begin shipping to customers in January 2006.
