Association celebrates first formal deliverable in efforts to demystify Smart Manufacturing

CHANDLER, ARIZ., --MESA International and MESA's Smart Manufacturing Working Group announce the release of the highly anticipated whitepaper 'Smart Manufacturing - The Landscape Explained.' The paper aims to clarify the relationships between multiple new initiatives and terms in the manufacturing IT arena including IIoT, Industrie 4, Digital Thread and Smart Manufacturing.

Conrad Leiva, head of MESA's Smart Manufacturing Working Group, explains the importance of a defined landscape for such a mystically-perceived topic. "Smart Manufacturing is more than just hype. There is a real manufacturing revolution on its way and organizations should be aware of how several currents of innovation in equipment, technology and information technology tools are creating the opportunity for a revolutionary productivity growth for manufacturers."

The whitepaper is just the beginning of a set of blog posts, resources, speaking engagements and presentations delivered by MESA to teach the world about today's modern 'Manufacturing meets IT' topics.

MESA's 2016 North American Conference,  May 3-5, 2016 in Rosemont, IL, will also build on the association's work in this area. The event, themed "Demystifying Smart Manufacturing," is in collaboration with the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition (SMLC) and is co-located with IndustryWeek's Manufacturing & Technology Conference & Expo.

The three-day event will showcase:

A dedicated track of MESA speakers

An exhibitors' pavilion within the M&T Expo Hall

A 'Smart Manufacturing unConference' session in IndustryWeek's pre-conference workshops

An opening panel discussion about Smart Manufacturing, moderated by IndustryWeek with leaders from MESA, SMLC, DMDII (Digital Manufacturing & Design Innovation Institute) on the panel

Mike Yost, President of MESA International, adds mention of MESA's role in educating manufacturers, "MESA serves as the source for education about the role and value of modern Information Technologies in manufacturing enterprises -- and has done so for the past 24 years. In collaboration with several organizations, like the SMLC and Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), MESA is able to deliver education about the convergence of technologies to help manufacturers realize process improvement potential sooner rather than later."
