Megger Raises $14,765 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation

18th annual Megger Distributor Golf Event pays tribute to 22-year-old cancer survivor

Norristown, Pa. March 2019 – Megger held its 18th annual Distributor Golf Event on Saturday, January 26 and raised a total of $14,765 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation. The much anticipated event, held once again at Ahwatukee Country Club in Phoenix, Arizona, is organized in honor of 22-year-old Tyler Danner, a cancer survivor and recent graduate of Northern Arizona University.

“This year, over 130 golfers participated in the event — the largest turnout we have had to date. Two patients from Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and HopeKids members, played along with us — Landon and Seth.  We not only got to raise money in honor of my daughter Tyler, but enjoyed involving a few current patients in a fun day out in the sun.  It was a great day all around,” said David Danner, director of USA distribution sales for Megger, founder and co-coordinator of the event and Tyler’s dad.

“It is wonderful to see how many people come out to support this event each year.  We are beyond thankful to Megger for helping us give back to a community that provides a lot of hope and healing to children and their families,” explained Mike Palmer, co-coordinator of the event and Western regional sales manager of US Distribution, Megger. “People from all over the world travel to Phoenix Children’s for world-class pediatric care,” continued Palmer. Tyler thanked the participants and shared a bit about the care she received at Phoenix Children’s, and how the experience continues to inspire and shape her perspective on life.

Making a difference together

As in years past, this special event is hosted by Megger’s US distribution team, authorized distributors, customers, employees as well as doctors, nurses and representatives from Phoenix Children’s.  This year, in addition to the $10,000 Megger donated to Phoenix Children’s, $4,765 was collected at the tournament through a 50/50 raffle and chances sold to win tickets to the Phoenix Open that were donated by Coors Light. An additional $1,515 was raised through the sale of mulligans to benefit HopeKids of Arizona, an organization that creates a community for pediatric cancer survivors and their families.  Another $500 was donated to carcinoid cancer research from the money raised through ticket sales for popcorn donated by My Popcorn Kitchen and gifts donated by the Arizona Cardinals.

“Many other companies were also extremely generous with their donations. Transcat donated golf towels; Mitchell Instruments donated golf flags; TEquipment donated cart stickers; and Hob Knob, a sports bar in Chandler, sponsored hole number one and made a generous donation to the event; as did ACS Controls while sponsoring hole number 10,” said Danner. Ad space, valued at $2,500, was donated by WTWH Media for a full page ad in Windpower Engineering and Development Magazine and Solar Power Magazine. Larry Miller Nissan donated a car for anyone who got a hole in one at the number 12 hole.  There was no winner this year.

“We also had several private donations made by Laurie Sobel, Jerry Willis of Metronic, and Mercuri International.  Photographer, Gwendolyn Hanlon of Radia LLC donated her time and materials to take pictures at the event. It was truly a team effort this year and we are so thankful,” continued Danner.

Charlie, from Super Charlie Scramble — an event that helps raise funds to help families who have children battling cancer — and patient at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, along with his dad, made a generous donation to the tournament as well.

Winners of the event

First place went to Blake Runacres, John Elder, Peter Moody and Kevin Plawecki. The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children’s, the event’s beneficiary, is the real winner.  The nationally ranked program combines family-centered care with research and clinical trials to offer children the best chances for longer, healthier futures.
