MBK Tape Solutions Prescribes to Lean 101 Manufacturing And Learns About Push-Pull Production

Keeping with their commitment to add value to their customers and to continually improve, MBK Tape Solutions prescribes to Lean manufacturing principles. There are seven Lean principles: Respect People, Optimize the Whole, Eliminate Waste, Build Quality In, Deliver Fast, Create Knowledge and Defer Commitment. Last year, MBK worked on eliminating waste and tasks that are devoid of value. This year with the guidance from Dennis Grogan, a consultant from AustinCorp., MBK is focusing on identifying areas of improvement and standardizing the process. 

PUSH-PULL PRODUCTION

Weekly, managers and employees discuss new ways to improve the processes at MBK. To help manage the flow of inventory more effectively, Dennis led a Push-Pull activity. The production crew learned that the pull-based lean environment helped ensure a continuous flow of production from raw materials to finished products. Utilizing Kanban signals, upstream work centers started producing parts when given the signal. This method helps with the movement of materials and allows cycle time for setting up machines for the next job. With a pull-based system, MBK will improve meeting our customer demands and deliver products on time.
