MaxLite Enlightens Readers at the Benjamin Franklin Library in Monterrey, Mexico

“MaxLite’s LED task lighting solutions delivered the required lumen output and met other project demands while highlighting the architectural details of the library. MaxLite offered innovative luminaires and lamps for a variety of challenging applications and provided exceptional service and support to help us complete this project on time.” - Daniel J. Salazar Cardenas, Distributor, Lighting Consultants, S.A. de C.V.

The Challenges

The Benjamin Franklin Library in Monterrey, Mexico needed high performance, energy efficient LED fixtures and lamps to provide long-term energy savings throughout the new library facility, while meeting the library’s specific requirements in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and International Standards Organization (ISO). The library required 700 to 750 lumens to properly illuminate the reading spaces and make it easier for library patrons to read and browse thousands of books, DVDs, periodicals and other shelved items.

The Solution

For general lighting throughout library, the project architect specified 225 of MaxLite’s 90-watt 2’x4’ Edge Lit LED Flat Panels, as well as 56 60-watt 2’x2’ and 40 60-watt 1’x4’ models. In the reading labs, meeting and circulation areas, the library’s wall and ceiling coves and moldings are now highlighted with 200 dimmable Plug-and-Play LED Lightbars. In the lobby, circulation, meeting and periodical and reference areas, 160 dimmable 14-watt LED 6-inch Recessed Downlight Retrofits deliver pleasant ambient lighting. Throughout the new facility, 150 4-watt MR16s and 30 5-watt PAR20 LED lamps illuminate pictures, bookcases and desktops.

The Benefits

The Flat Panels are designed to produce an even shadowless illumination without glare for a long maintenance-free life of 50,000 hours. Offering the same long life, MaxLite’s easy-to-install LED Lightbars, which link together for continuous, uninterrupted runs, feature an architectural grade diffuser that minimizes glare and delivers even light distribution while concealing the LEDs from view. Delivering more than 35,000-hour maintenance-free operation, the dimmable 14-watt LED 6-inch Recessed Downlight Retrofits were selected for their 50 to 75 percent reduction in energy costs. MaxLite’s LED MR16 and PAR20s provide better quality lighting than compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and superior cost savings to the incandescent alternatives, and consume just 4- and 5-watts and replace new installation incandescent bulbs ranging from 20 to 35 watts.
