Manufacturers Launch Ad Campaign Opposing Higher Energy Taxes

Campaign Warns of the Negative Impact of New Energy Taxes on Job Creators

Washington, D.C. - As part of its affordable energy campaign, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has launched television ads opposing costly energy taxes and the detrimental effect they will have on manufacturing costs and jobs. Imposing new energy taxes will not help spur economic growth or create much-needed jobs; they will add to the burden on businesses and families struggling to regain their economic footing. The television ads focus on policymakers who are faced with tough decisions about how to lower our national debt without picking winners and losers in the private sector.

"Affordable energy is more important than ever. Factoring in energy costs, it's already 20 percent more expensive to manufacture in the United States compared to our trading partners," said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons. "Manufacturers use one-third of our nation's energy supply, so adding costly energy taxes to the mix will harm their ability to create new jobs, invest and grow. The policies coming out of Washington must allow manufacturers to lead the recovery and create new jobs."

The NAM has laid out a comprehensive blueprint to keep manufacturing in the United States competitive, entitled A Manufacturing Renaissance: Four Goals for Economic Growth.
