Makita Rocks World of Concrete 2015

Makita delivers new tools, new accessories, and plenty of concrete for hands-on demonstrations

La Mirada, CA – Over 50,000 concrete professionals converged on Las Vegas earlier this month for the World of Concrete trade show -- and Makita was ready with an array of new concrete tools and accessories, with hands-on demonstrations for attendees to feel the difference for themselves.

Over 50,000 converged on Las Vegas for World of Concrete 2015.

Big Trade Show, Big Year

World of Concrete, the concrete industry's biggest annual event, arrives early each year. For Makita, 2015 also marks the company's 100 Year Anniversary, as well as the planned release of the 100th tool in the 18V LXT® line-up, the world's largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18V slide-style battery.

During the 4-day event, Makita presented the very latest concrete solutions in the outdoor Silver Lot area with several tons of concrete forms, where contractors could run the tools in a variety of applications.

"This event is a favorite because it's all about contractors trying out the tools and experiencing the difference for themselves," said Wayne Hart, Communications Manager, Makita USA. "An important part of performance is how the tool feels in your hands, day after day. Makita tools combine industrial power, performance and results with superior comfort and ergonomics. In the end they simply feel better, while at the same time helping contractors work more efficiently to meet their high productivity standards."

Makita Highlights at WOC 2015

Makita demonstrated its unrivaled industry leadership in the concrete category with a range of new tools and accessories. Here are the highlights from World of Concrete 2015:

70 lb. AVT® Breaker Hammer (HM1812)

Attendees at World of Concrete were the first to experience the latest addition to Makita's expanding line-up of concrete tools equipped with Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT®). The new 70 lb. AVT® Breaker Hammer (model HM1812) has a powerful 15 AMP motor that delivers a full 68 Joules of impact energy, so contractors get hard-hitting performance but with less noise, lower vibration, and zero hassle with an air hose and compressor. The HM1812 features the latest advanced AVT® Technology with an internal mechanical counterbalance system, vibration-absorbing housing, and fixed movement handles for significantly less vibration during concrete breaking applications. WOC attendees were invited to step up, try out both the HM1812 and a 60 lb. Air Hammer, and feel the difference for themselves. (HM1812 available in spring 2015)

14" Power Cutter Line-Up

World of Concrete attendees were able to run through the deep line-up of Makita concrete cutting solutions, with four 14" concrete cutting tools on demonstration. For premium performance, the 14" MM4® Power Cutter (EK7651H), the world's first 4-stroke engine power cutter, was powered up for a range of applications. The EK7651H demo highlighted advantages including no fuel mixing, easier starts, and superior handling with the retractable wheel kit. The powerful EK7301 was on-hand for attendees to cut metal decking, demonstrating the tool's 73 cc engine and 5.1 maximum horsepower. For compact performance, the EK6101 weighs only 19.6 lbs., and attendees could feel the difference in a wall-cutting application. For indoor applications, an ideal alternative to a gas-powered saw is the 14" SJS™ Angle Cutter (4114). Users appreciated the power and capacity with zero emissions – and improved dust extraction when used with the Makita Xtract Vac™ and vacuum attachment.

18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless ½" Hammer Driver-Drill Kit with 5.0Ah Battery (XPH07T)

With a jaw-dropping 1,090 in.lbs. of torque, the Makita XPH07 is the undisputed king of the hammer driver-drill category. Attendees at World of Concrete ran the class-leading brushless Hammer Driver-Drill in two applications typically associated with corded drills: mud mixing, and drilling into metal decking with a step bit. The XPH07 is now available in a kit with the new 18V LXT® 5.0Ah battery for longer run time.

18V LXT® Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah Battery (BL1850)

Makita knows that the most expensive asset on a jobsite is labor, so the less time a battery sits on the charger, the more time it's powering the tool. This means more work and less downtime. The new 5.0Ah battery provides 65% more run time than the Makita 3.0Ah (BL1830) battery, yet delivers a category-leading charge time of only 45 minutes for increased job site efficiency.

18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless Angle Grinder (XAG03M)

The XAG03M is powered by the Makita 18V 4.0Ah battery for longer run time and the fastest charge time in the category, and is engineered to deliver the power and performance of a corded grinder — without the hassles of a cord. The new XAG03M features Automatic Speed Change™ Technology, which is engineered to adjust speed and torque during grinding or cutting applications for optimum performance, even under heavy load. Attendees at WOC took turns cutting rebar with the new 18V Brushless Angle Grinder.

Expanding AVT® Line-Up

Makita's exclusive Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT®) is more than just a padded or spring-loaded handle. AVT® is an internal counterbalance system engineered into the tool that greatly reduces vibration for increased user comfort and productivity. Makita offers an AVT® solution in every major hammer class, from 1" rotary hammers to 70 lb. breaker hammers. At World of Concrete, the recently released 1-9/16" AVT Rotary Hammer (HR4013C) and 2" AVT® Rotary Hammer (HR5212C) were on demonstration, and attendees at World of Concrete experienced the difference for themselves.

5.5 HP Big Bore™ Gas Air Compressor (MAC5501G)

Compressors are workhorse tools on the jobsite, and Makita compressors are contractor favorites for their faster recovery time, lower noise, longer tool life, and consistent jobsite performance. Makita has added the new 5.5 HP Big Bore™ Gas Air Compressor (MAC5501G) to its best-in-class line-up. It has a powerful Honda GX160 4-stroke engine for increased performance and superior reliability, with a "V" Twin style pump that runs cooler and provides up to 12.5 CFM at 100 PSI for faster recovery. At World of Concrete, attendees experienced the MAC5501G's efficient performance with a demonstration that included the Makita 3-1/2" Framing Nailer (AN923).

18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless 6-1/2" Circular Saw (XSH03M/Z)

Makita is the innovation leader in brushless motor technology, and the new 18V LXT® Brushless 6-1/2" Circular Saw combines power and run-time for faster cutting and ripping – without the cord. The XSH03M is equipped with Automatic Speed Change™ Technology, which adjusts speed and torque during operation for optimum performance. The XSH03M Kit includes the 18V 4.0Ah battery with the category's fastest charge time. Attendees tried out the new XSH03M, as well as the 18V X2 LXT® Lithium-Ion (36V) 7-1/4" Circular Saw powered by two 18V batteries: Two cordless solutions for formwork and other cutting applications.

New Accessories for Concrete Contractors

Makita has a deep line-up of concrete solutions, including accessories that are engineered to help contractors work more efficiently. At World of Concrete, Makita demonstrated three new accessories for concrete applications.

2.6 Gallon Pressurized Water Tank (988-394-610)

There is increasing awareness of the importance of dust management on job sites, and Makita is meeting demand with a growing line of dust management solutions. The 2.6 Gallon Pressurized Water Tank is the latest solution, making wet cutting possible in areas where water is unavailable. The 2.6 Gallon Pressurized Water Tank provides access to water and helps manage dust when cutting on roads, highways, and other remote locations. The new Pressurized Water Tank was at work at WOC in wet-cutting applications.

6" Floor Scraper (T-02593)

Tile removal can be a time-consuming job and Makita has delivered the right accessory to get the job done more efficiently. The new 6" Floor Scraper is engineered for use with SDS-MAX demolition hammers, and features a wide 6" flexible blade that allows it to get under and plow through large tiles quickly and easily. The Floor Scraper is for use with hammers that accept SDS-MAX shank, and is ideal for tile removal, linoleum removal, and scraping adhesive. Attendees at World of Concrete ran the new 6" 'Floor Scraper with Makita's 27 lb. AVT® Demolition Hammer (HM1214C) and 20 lb. Demolition Hammer (HM1203C).

16" Self Sharpening Bull Point, 1-1/8" Hex (B-45559)

The bull point chisel is the ideal accessory for general concrete breaking and chipping. However, effective breaking requires that the chisel remain sharp to penetrate hard concrete. The new Makita 16" Self-Sharpening Bull Point for 1-1/8" Hammers features an innovative design that is engineered to keep the bit point sharper longer than traditional bits. It is for use with Makita and other manufacturers' 1-1/8" hex hammers, and is ideal for general purpose demolition in brick or concrete, as well as for starting holes in concrete. The new Self-Sharpening Bit was on demonstration with the new 70 lb. AVT Breaker Hammer (HM1812).
