Lumidigm Wins Another Brazilian Bank for ATM Fingerprint Access

With Diebold and Griaule, Lumidigm Brings Convenience to ATM Users with Fingerprint Biometrics

CIAB Financial Show Attendees Can See the Technology in Person during 20-22 June Event in Sao Paolo

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Lumidigm announced today that it is deploying fingerprint sensors into automated teller machines (ATMs) of one of Brazil's largest state-owned banks via partners Diebold Brazil, which is supplying the ATMs, and Griaule, a Brazilian-based software company that is providing supporting software. The initial order of more than 3,500 units will replace PINs that bank customers typically use to authenticate their identity and access their accounts via the ATM.

"The bank needed a solution that would work every time and make it easy for its customers to use the ATMs," emphasizes Joao Abud, Jr., president, Diebold Brazil. "That's exactly what the Lumidigm fingerprint reader provides. With a simple touch of a finger, customers can access their money through our ATMs - with no PIN required."

"As a Brazilian company, it is especially exciting to help spread the use of fingerprint technology in our home market," adds Iron Daher, President of Griaule. "More and more Brazilian companies are migrating to it and our algorithm is making it easy for them to do so."

"With our multispectral imaging technology, which reads fingerprints both on and below the skin, biometrics is no longer relegated to the back office at banks. The reliability and intuitive interface our sensors provide allow biometrics to be used confidently with customers even in unattended applications like ATMs," attests Bill Spence, Lumidigm's Vice President of Transaction Systems. "Bank customers simply insert their card and touch the fingerprint reader to conveniently withdraw their funds from the ATM and be on their way. No PIN to remember, no training required. It's that simple."

Latin America is rapidly embracing fingerprint technology as the preferred mode to provide security and convenient access to their financial resources via ATMs. Earlier this week, Lumidigm announced that Itautec is presently installing the first 12,000 Lumidigm fingerprint readers into the ATM network of one of Brazil's largest private banks. Not limited to Latin America, several South Africa banks are doing likewise, providing customers with an easy way to access their accounts while adding increased security in a most visible manner.

The technology being used in bank ATMs in Brazil is being shown at Booth #I12 at the CIAB show, June 20-22, at the Transamerica Center Fairgrounds in São Paulo.
