LSI, Intel and Microsoft Demonstrate Benefits of SAS in Windows Virtualization Environments

LSI Showcases End-to-End SAS Solutions and Unmatched Storage Interface Breadth at IDF

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 17 / / - INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM - LSI Corporation (NYSE:LSI) announced it is collaborating with Intel and Microsoft at Intel Developer Forum to demonstrate the scalability, availability and performance enhancements that Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) brings to virtualized environments. LSI will showcase the Windows Server virtualization capabilities of its SAS portfolio at the Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV) Community booth #119, September 18-20, 2007 at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco. In addition, LSI will be displaying its end-to-end SAS solutions and unmatched storage interface breadth at various venues throughout the show, including the LSI booth #229, the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Community booth #149, and the SCSI Trade Association (STA) booth #324.

"With more and more users deploying virtualization technology to capitalize on the operational efficiencies its provides, LSI is working to make sure that our industry-leading SAS portfolio not only meets the demands of these environments, but exceeds them," said Robert Andrews, director of product marketing for the Storage Components Group, LSI Corporation. "This demonstration with Intel and Microsoft substantiates the importance of our end-to-end SAS technology that has the ability to deliver superior scalability, availability and performance to virtualization implementations."

The Windows Server 2008 demonstration will showcase how extendible SAS storage products offer a flexible and simplified hardware infrastructure to scale up Windows Server virtualization deployments. This demonstration will highlight the seamless integration of SAS physical hardware in Windows Server 2008 and its hypervisor-based virtualization capabilities with a single driver implementation while achieving greater than 90 percent of physical storage hardware performance.

"Customers invest in virtualization for the server consolidation, centralized management, migration and operational efficiency benefits it delivers," said Mike Neil, general manager of virtualization strategy, Microsoft Corp. "As a member of the Windows Server virtualization technology adoption program, LSI is working closely with Microsoft to validate its extensive portfolio of SAS products by providing product feedback and testing through pre-release builds."

"Virtualization has emerged in the mainstream IT market and continues to gain traction," said Jim Pappas, director of initiative marketing, Intel Corporation. "As this trend continues, vendors are working together to ensure that virtualized data centers are able to operate at the highest levels of functionality. This week at IDF, attendees have the opportunity to see the true capabilities that virtualization has to offer in a SAS environment with next-generation solutions."

In addition to its presence at the IHV booth, LSI will be demonstrating its end-to-end SAS solutions and unmatched storage interface breadth at the LSI booth #229. LSI is unique in its ability to offer a wide range of SAS solutions, including integrated circuits (controllers, RAID on chips [ROC], and expander ICs); host bus adapters (HBAs) and MegaRAID(R) adapters; storage systems; active-active muxes and interposer cards; and custom disk drive solutions. The company will also be showcasing its breadth of storage interfaces, including Serial Attached SCSI, Serial ATA, Fibre Channel, InfiniBand and SCSI.

A leader in industry and technology initiatives, LSI is also participating in the UEFI Community and STA booths (#149 and #324, respectively) at IDF. As a contributing member of the UEFI Forum, a non-profit collaborative trade organization formed to promote and manage the UEFI standard, LSI is taking a leadership position among host-based RAID vendors in defining key criteria to optimize device drivers and management applications for the next generation of Intel Architecture-based systems. LSI also actively participates in STA to promote the understanding and use of SAS technology, and to influence the evolution of SAS standards to meet future industry needs.
