Loughborough's Margaret Pickton Wins Dialog Scholarship

London, UK (29 November 2005) - Dialog, a Thomson business, said today that Margaret Joan Pickton from Loughborough University is the winner of this year's 5000 Roger K. Summit Scholarship award for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific.

Named in honour of Dialog founder and Chairman Emeritus Roger K. Summit, a pioneer in developing the technology behind online information retrieval, the scholarship is awarded in different regions of the world to graduate students enrolled in library or information science programmes.

Dialog made the announcement at the Online Information 2005 conference meeting here this week.

"Over the years, our international scholarship winners have been promising young information specialists from countries around the world, including Israel, Singapore, South Africa and Switzerland," said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional development. "This year, we're delighted to have our first winner from the United Kingdom. Miggie Pickton has been an outstanding student at Loughborough and has a great future ahead of her."

Pickton expects to graduate with a Master of Science degree with Distinction in Information and Library Management next month from the University of Loughborough, in Leicestershire, U.K. She also holds a doctorate in Geography from the University of Leicester and a bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of Lancaster.

"I am thrilled to have been awarded this prestigious scholarship from Dialog," said Pickton. "It will certainly be a help as I begin the transition into a professional career."

The University of Loughborough's Department of Information Science is considered one of the leading institutions in the United Kingdom at which to study information science and librarianship.

Dialog's scholarships are awarded based on proficiency in using online information services, as well as academic performance and the recommendations of faculty and others. For more information about the scholarship programme, please visit gep.dialog.com/scholarship/.
