Local Manufacturing Company becomes Tier 1 Supplier to the Automotive Industry

A local state of the art manufacturing facility in Clearwater, Sun Microstamping Technologies has reached its goal of becoming a Tier 1 Supplier to the Automotive Industry, a great accomplishment for this previously Tier 2 & 3 Automotive supplier. The Sun management team attributes their success to the hard work of their employees and the entire companies focus on their 2010 goal of creating a stronger company during this reconstruction year. Not only has Sun achieved the opportunity to be a Tier 1 supplier the project is also cutting edge technology in the Automotive Industry and an "Eco-friendly" program.

Sun Microstamping Technologies was founded in 1987 by Phil Ross who is currently the VP of Engineering and Sales. This small to mid size manufacturing facility prospered during the 90's and early 2000's but, like many businesses its size, when the recession hit, they were one of the first to feel it. Sun downsized operations, significantly cut costs and rapidly tried to diversify from the automotive market which accounted for 80% of their business. This company like many others went into survival mode. So, in-house they have dubbed 2010 a reconstruction year and are focused on making their company stronger by looking at their weaknesses and attacking them head on. By emerging from survival mode as a survivor; stronger than ever and more efficient than they have been in years, Sun has been able to be optimistic about the future and the growth of their customer base. One of the unique aspects of Sun is it is a management owned and operated company so they understood how lean they could go in the recession without diluting their skill and talent thus forming their "A Team", which have proved to be leaders for this company in all departments from the shop floor to upper level management. Sun's promise to their customers is to add value to their customers business and be a dependable supplier.

Sun Microstamping Technologies specializes in precision metal stamping, custom plastic insert and injection molding and offers a wide range of secondary processes; assembly, laser / RF welding, heat staking, contact formation and finished component testing. Sun excels in prototype design and management, new product design and launch and designing and building of automated work stations in-house. Sun adds value to its customers by providing higher quality products through its design and technical experience and expertise. Sun has a reputation for having the ability to offer complex design solutions. The majority of Sun's customers are in the Automotive, Medical, Electronic, Telecommunications and Marine Industries. They cater to the specific manufacturing and product needs and requirements of each Industry while maintaining consistent quality and exceptional customer service. They are proud to report that their biggest customer is in the Medical Device Industry, so they have been able to diversify.

The Automotive Industry still accounts for the largest percent of their business and they are thrilled to be working as a Tier 1 supplier to GM. The new program is a component for the Second Generation Full Electric car that GM is manufacturing in 2011. The program launched in-house at Sun this month with full production not scheduled to start until next year. This "eco-friendly" car will have lower emissions and a smaller carbon footprint than conventional automotives. Sun is excited to be involved in the production of this "eco-friendly" automotive with leading technology in the industry. As the Automotive Industry follows the trend of constructing "eco-friendly" cars to meet the needs and wants of the consumers and the environment, Sun hopes to play a role.

Since the beginning of 2010 Sun has experienced 60% growth of employees in the local manufacturing facility. This does not include the growth in their Mexico facility. They are optimistic that this growth will continue through 2010 as demand increases and the Industry pulls itself out of the slump. This company is trying to do their part for the local economy.
