Littelfuse Picks University Research Park Site for New Tech Center

Access to University of Illinois resources will foster collaboration and expand new product development efforts

DES PLAINES, Illinois - September 22, 2009 - Littelfuse, Inc., a global leader in circuit protection products and solutions, will create a new Technical Center at a state-of-the-art research park located on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus. Scheduled for completion by March 2010, the 14,500-square-foot facility will accelerate Littelfuse's product development efforts and support customers' product testing requirements.

"The new technical center, which will include a High Power Test Lab, will be relocated from our Des Plaines, Illinois, facility. It reflects Littelfuse's continuing focus on research and development," said Dan Stanek, Director of Business Development. "Our presence at the research park will allow Littelfuse to leverage the skills and knowledge of faculty and students, as well as gain direct access to University resources," added Stanek.

Littelfuse's global lab capabilities include overcurrent and overvoltage testing, as well as material analysis and reliability testing. These in-house capabilities accelerate new product development efforts and ensure performance and regulatory compliance of customer designs.

As part of the transition, the POWR-GARD® engineering team will move from the company's Arcola, Illinois, facility to the Research Park.

"Establishment of a technical center linked to a top-tier university supports Littelfuse's mission to maintain our leadership position in the circuit protection industry," said Gordon Hunter, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Ranked among the top five electrical engineering schools in the nation, the University of Illinois established the Research Park 10 years ago to attract high-tech companies as residents and encourage university-industry collaboration. The Research Park is now home to 66 companies, including Qualcomm, Caterpillar, Yahoo, Abbott Laboratories and John Deere.
