Linde Expert to Discuss How Energized Solutions Can Increase Productivity/reduce Water Use in Hydraulic Fracturing Operations

MURRAY HILL, N.J. and NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. – A paper to be presented at the upcoming at the 2014 Wyoming CO2 Conference will describe how Linde's energized solutions can help hydraulic fracturing operators increase their productivity and decrease water use. The Conference will be held July 9-10 at the Casper Events Center in Casper, Wyoming.

The paper, "Energized Solutions - Fracturing Fluid Selection," will be presented by Robin Watts, Oil Gas Technology manager for Linde Energy Solutions. "For oil and gas wells, reaching the highest net present value on an investment means achieving the lowest unit cost of production," said Watts. "The ideal hydraulic fracturing solution improves well productivity most cost effectively. Energized fluids for fracturing have a long history of success in both areas of improving production and reducing fracturing fluid costs."

Linde Energy Solutions is a business unit of Linde North America, a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company.

Watts's presentation reviews the key principles in fracturing fluid selection - 3 E's: EOR, economics, and environmental footprint - along with tools and methods for evaluating fluids based upon those principles. "We will look at examples in unconventional plays to examine the total life cycle costs of hydraulic fracturing fluids, comparing water-based and energized fluids. The approach serves to evaluate when fracturing fluids energized with carbon dioxide (CO2) or nitrogen (N2) can be used to reduce water volume and improve productivity for more economical hydraulic fracturing."

Linde has developed a simple economic assessment tool that can help producers estimate the potential economic impact of using different fracturing fluids by including estimates for a variety of cost and productivity factors over the entire life cycle of the well. More information on how energized solutions can reduce water use and improve productivity and Linde's Calculator and Productivity Simulator tools can be found in a white paper, "A Day in the Life of a Barrel of Water" located in the Linde Document Library.
