Lincoln Electric and Fanuc Introduce New Robotic Welding Education Cell

Advanced Technology Provides Real-Life Training Experience

Cleveland - Robotic welding continues to grow in popularity due in large part to the critical shortage of skilled labor, combined with industry's need to remain cost competitive with lower labor costs and improved productivity. Responding to this trend, Lincoln Electric and FANUC Robotics have partnered to offer the new Robotic Education Cell, an instructional cell that can be moved from classroom to classroom for training the next generation of welders on robotic programming and welding.

For instructors and students alike, the new cell provides access to the best curriculum, materials and technology needed to develop the skills demanded by today's advanced manufacturing environment.

"The future of the welding industry lies in motivating students to learn the trade and the newest technologies," said Geoff Lipnevicius, engineering manager, Lincoln Electric Automation Division. "This new Robotic Welding Education Cell helps incorporate robotics into welding education programs, providing students with real-world knowledge that they can easily integrate on the job - not only in a manufacturing environment but in other welding-intensive industries as well."

The Robotic Education Cell is designed for educational institutions, training departments, schools and other facilities to teach robotic programming related to gas metal arc welding (GMAW). The program gives students a foundation both in robotic welding basics and more sophisticated technologies, preparing them to succeed in industries ranging from building and construction, to shipbuilding, manufacturing and oil field services.

The cell further supplements the students' coursework in any math or science-based curriculum, including CAD, electronics, machining and information technology.

The Robotic Education Cell - which measures 81" tall x 27" wide x 65" long (including options) - offers teaching institutions with a number of benefits:
o It is designed to fit through a standard doorway. The cell is small, lightweight and on casters. It can be moved easily from classroom to classroom and positioned for optimal demonstration purposes.
o The cell is ready to go out of the box. Packages include integrated gas bottle rack/storage, fume extraction mounting, integrated safety measures and numerous software options from FANUC Robotics to maximize the capability and functionality of the system.
o The cell offers a single power drop for the complete cell - simplifying connection of the FANUC ARC Mate 50iC/5L and Power Wave®.

The Robotic Education Cell features the:
o Lincoln Electric Power Wave® 355M welding power source and AutoDrive(TM) 4R90 wire feeder welding package.
o FANUC ARC Mate 50iC/5L - complete robotic hardware and software solution.
