LIA Now Offers Laser Safety Officer Training Course Online!



(Orlando, FL, December 13, 2007) - Laser Institute of America is now offering training for the laser safety officer over the internet in online course format!

The Laser Safety Officer online course is a non-mathematical approach designed to teach the administrative duties of the Laser Safety Officer as described in the ANSI Z136.1 Safe Use of Lasers standard. Information on lasers and optics, bioeffects, beam and non-beam hazards, control measures and training requirements are covered. Emphasis is placed on laser safety program development and administration. This course meets all LSO training requirements outlined by ANSI, OSHA and ACGIH. It is worth 3.0 ABIH CM Points, 32 CECs by AAHP and 3.0 BLS CM Points by the Board of Laser Safety.

The online course contains current information on Federal, State, and International laser safety regulations, along with basic laser fundamentals and terminology necessary for a complete understanding of current laser safety information.

An overview of MPE's NHZ's, NOHD, effects on the eye and skin, laser accident history, and non-beam issues is also covered extensively.

Other sections on Laser Control Measures and Personal Protective Equipment provide the guidelines recommended by ANSI Z136 industry safety standards and review the compliance requirements mandated by OSHA.

The online course concludes with a section on implementing an effective laser safety program. The requirements for laser personnel, medical surveillance and the responsibilities of the Laser Safety Officer are explained in detail.

The registration fee for the Laser Safety Officer online course is $795 for members and $895 for non-members. Included with registration is a username and password that is good for ten days of unlimited access. A PDF file containing a set of color course notes, a sample documentation including self-audit forms and questions, standard operating procedures, and policies and procedures is also included.
