LGInternational Aquires Malaysian Based United Colours
Portland, OR, January 11, 2008 - LGInternational, manufacturer of advanced labeling solutions, has acquired two Malaysian companies, which comprise a label and component manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia, to expand its operations in the Asia-Pacific.
The facility, which will operate under the name of LGI Technology (M) Sdn Bhd, will expand LGI's base of capabilities as well as product expertise. At the signing ceremony, Mike Martin, President of LGInternational, said "the acquisition of Penang-based United Colours Sdn Bhd and Geltec Technologies Sdn Bhd will see a major transfer of cleanroom technology from LGInternational while some of United Colours product lines will be added to LGI's overall product range."
United Colours and Geltec will be LGInternational's second Asian manufacturing facility after its first Asian plant in Wuxi, China, that opened in 2006. LGI currently has a significant portion of its business in Asia, encompassing both China and South-East Asia. The facility in Penang, formerly owned by managing director Bernard Ng Wah Nam, will primarily service customers in South East Asia. "LGInternational was impressed with our products and later, proposed an acquisition deal. United Colours and Geltec also wanted to become regional players, so this acquisition is a win-win situation for all," stated Bernard Ng.
