LexisNexis to Unveil Plans for Congressional Hearings Digital Collection, Forming the Largest Online Collection of Congressional Information

New collection will provide academia access to the most comprehensive and easy-to-use repository of congressional information

DAYTON, Ohio, June 22, 2006 - LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of information and services solutions, will unveil its plans for the LexisNexis Congressional Hearings Digital Collection (www.lexisnexis.com/hearings) during the American Library Association meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, from June 24 to June 27, 2006. The integration of the Congressional Hearings Digital Collection to the LexisNexis Congressional service, which currently includes the LexisNexis U.S. Serial Set Digital Collection and the LexisNexis Congressional Research Digital Collection (CRDC), will form the most comprehensive online collection of congressional information available today.

Throughout the last 35 years LexisNexis has been collecting and preserving valuable congressional archives, which has led to the most comprehensive collection to date on microfilm. Now LexisNexis is taking the congressional hearings data, both published and unpublished hearings, and digitizing it so it is easily searchable with metadata tagging, as well as full-text searching.

The state-of-the-art indexing from LexisNexis provides precise and fast search capabilities for combing through nearly 200 years of congressional hearings online. Hearings can be located by searching for the bill number, committee, controlled subject headings, document or abstract full text, hearing number, public law number, Statutes at Large citation, title, or witness and affiliation. Searches can also be limited by date or Congress.

"Online access to congressional hearings is what faculty and students have been waiting for-LexisNexis comes through again! This content will complement the digital collections already available in the LexisNexis U.S. Serial Set Digital Collection and CRDC products and provide a single, powerful resource for access to primary source congressional information," said Marianne Ryan, head of Government Documents & Maps for the University of Maryland Libraries.

Tim Fusco, vice president of publishing operations for LexisNexis Corporate and Federal Markets said, "We have been addressing these needs, and are looking forward to highlighting our progress at ALA. Our dedication to providing the academic community with access to the inner workings of those hearings has been instrumental in our creation of the most comprehensive online collection of congressional information available today."

The LexisNexis Congressional Hearings Digital Collection will be available in three modules: Retrospective A (years: 1824-1979), Retrospective B (years: 1980-2003) and Prospective (years: 2004 and beyond), totaling close to 125,000 titles and an additional 1,500 titles will be added each year after 2004. LexisNexis is targeting early 2007 for the initial release.

Demonstrations will be given at LexisNexis booth #2632. For a special demo and interview with LexisNexis executives, please contact Jennifer Aleknavage at (301) 526-6311. To order the collection, please call 1-800-638-8380.
