Leading NetTek Cellular Base Station Analyzer Extends Over-the-Air Test Capabilities

Tektronix Offers the Only Single-box, Portable Tester for Over-the-Air Measurements on GSM/GPRS/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA, CDMA2000 and 1x EV-DO Standards

BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 13 -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE:TEK), a worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics products, announced the addition of Over-the-Air (OTA) testing capabilities for GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 1x EV-DO to its market-leading handheld NetTek Base Station Analyzer. With OTA test capabilities for UMTS/HSDPA and CDMA2000 announced last year, Tektronix is the only manufacturer to offer comprehensive support for the most commonly deployed wireless technologies in a single, handheld toolbox form factor.

Cellular installation and maintenance technicians need effective tools and techniques that reduce expenses and troubleshooting time. The addition of OTA testing capabilities allows the complete, accurate measurement of both base station parameters and the effects of the wireless environment at the same time, and can be performed without technicians ever having to leave their trucks in order to verify system performance.

"In a metropolitan area, customers may have 50-75 base stations to test and only one instrument," said Arif Kareem, Vice President, Network Diagnostics, Tektronix. "The additional support for OTA testing capabilities in the NetTek Base Station Analyzer will prove very useful when base station access is difficult or when a quick check of base station system performance is required. The NetTek is the most powerful platform for optimizing existing wireless services, while increasing efficiency and decreasing troubleshooting time."

The industry-leading NetTek BTS toolbox combines simplicity of use with powerful and accurate tests to create the most effective BTS tester on the market today. The broad range of available measurements and proven tool box approach enables operators to tune and protect their investments according to their technology deployment plans and testing needs. Operators deploying GPRS/EDGE services can leverage NetTek's market leading measurement capabilities and count on an easy and cost-effective upgrade path to 3G. For operators migrating to HSDPA or EV-DO, NetTek provides a complete set of measurements for 3G standards.

About The NetTek BTS Field Tool
The NetTek Analyzer is a rugged portable platform with multi-standard measurement capability. The NetTek fills the gap between expensive, full-compliance testing tools and low-cost instruments designed to perform only one measurement. The instrument's modular architecture supports a range of BTS transmitter measurements for standards including UMTS/WCDMA, EDGE, GSM, CDMA2000 1x EV-DO, CDMA2000, cdmaOne (IS-95), and IS-136. The instrument's Windows-based user interface simplifies operation and minimizes training needs. The compact battery-powered tool, which weighs just over 12 lbs (4 kg), is lightweight and rugged for transport to remote sites.
