Large-scale Samuel Facility to Open in the Southern United States for the Growing Automotive Market

Bill Chisholm, President CEO, Samuel, Son Co., Limited announced plans to open a new Samuel facility in the Southern USA which will deliver the capacity and capabilities beyond any other metal service center in the region.“As part of our company’s increasing commitment to the North American metal s marketplace, we will begin the construction of a new state-of-the-art metal service center in Columbia, Tennessee,” stated Chisholm.

Specifically designed to support the growing automotive market in the South, this new facility will house a new world-class hybrid automotive blanking line with a width capability up to 2050mm (80.7”). This line will be further enhanced with the ability to inspect, clean, level and lubricate sheet and will be able to produce rectangular, chevrons, and other custom shapes. It will handle new generation advanced high strength steels and Class A exposed product in both steel and aluminum. The facility will serve the needs of both Tier 1 automotive manufacturers and the world’s largest OEM auto makers.

In addition, Samuel will be installing a brand new 2133mm (84”) slitter. The slitter will include the ability to apply lubricants, inspect Class A surfaces, and slit advanced high strength steels.

The Greenfield facility will initially consist of 105,000 square feet on a 30 acre site with rail access. The entire storage and production area will be environmentally controlled to maximize product quality.

The first phase of this project is expected to be completed by July 1, 2015.
