Kim Lighting To Supply Outdoor Architectural Lighting For Gloucester World War II Veterans Memorial

Lighting manufacturer comes to aid of local veterans group to provide proper lighting for community landmark and tribute to local veterans

GLOUCESTER, MA, July 16, 2008 - Kim Lighting, a leading manufacturer of outdoor architectural lighting, announced today it will be providing outdoor lighting for the Gloucester World War II Veterans Memorial in Gloucester, MA. The donation is being made as part of Kim Lighting's "Shine The Light" initiative.

The memorial pays tribute to the men and women of Gloucester who fought in World War II. According to the Memorial Committee, 5,665 men and women from Gloucester fought in the war, which represented 22 percent of the city's population and was double the national average of 11 percent.

The memorial is located at Kent Circle in downtown Gloucester.

"We are so pleased to be able to illuminate this memorial for all to see," said Bill Foley, vice president and general manager of Kim Lighting. "These brave men and women fought for many of the freedoms we have today, and the city of Gloucester is rightfully proud of its men and women who represented our country with great pride and honor."

The lighting currently in use at the memorial does not provide proper illumination; instead causing a shadowed area that creates an unintentionally gloomy feel. The Memorial Committee wanted to provide improved lighting that would welcome visitors and create a more uplifting atmosphere to recognize the city's veterans. Kim Lighting is providing architectural floodlights, which are scheduled for installation by early August 2008.

"We are very proud of the tremendous contribution our city made to this country during World War II," said Mike Linquata, chairman of the Memorial Committee. "Thanks to Kim Lighting, we will be able to make the memorial more of a gathering place where people can come to pay their respects, remember their loved ones and honor the brave men and women of Gloucester."

Also involved in the project are local electricians Nick Taormina of the Roy Spittle Electrical Company and Ringo Tarr of MBT Electricians, as well as other volunteer workers who will install the lighting.

"Shine The Light" is a national program developed by Kim Lighting that provides outdoor lighting products to community groups, non-profit organizations and municipal landmarks that are in need of lighting but lack the necessary funds. The initiative also raises awareness of the importance of proper lighting for ensuring community safety as well as beautification.
