Keith Smith Named Director, Employment & Labor Policy at National Association of Manufacturers



WASHINGTON, D.C., May 21, 2008 - Keith Smith has been named Director, Employment and Labor Policy at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the nation's largest industrial trade association, NAM President John Engler announced today. Smith replaces Jason Straczewski in this position.

"Keith has demonstrated a strong work ethic and keen analytical mind that has made him a highly-valued member of our team. He will be a strong asset for the NAM in articulating and advancing the employment and labor issues of concern to manufacturers and their employees across the nation," said Engler.

Smith will engage in a number of high-priority policy issues including the protection of secret ballot elections for union membership and issues related to the Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Ledbetter and other key employment or labor-related initiatives that are essential to enhancing manufacturing competitiveness and job-creation.

Smith joined the NAM in December 2005 as a Policy Analyst and was soon promoted to Director of Research. In this role, Smith was responsible for monitoring legislative issues, instituting political and policy research and developing advocacy materials to advance the NAM agenda. Prior to joining the NAM, Smith served as Federal Government Affairs Specialist for Tew Cardenas LLP and worked for former U.S. Senator George Allen (R-VA).
