Katrina Survivor Wins Bodine's Oldest Motor Contest

Bodine Electric Company is pleased to announce that Martin Butirich is the winner of its 100th Anniversary Oldest Motor Contest. His winning entry, a 1927 oscillating spindle sander, took the prize in two of the contest categories: it was both the oldest Bodine product still doing its job, and the oldest Bodine product submitted. As the winner, Butirich received a check for $2,000. Additionally, he requested that the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund receive the contest's matching charitable donation. Butirich, a resident of New Orleans, bought the sander earlier this year for twenty dollars at a building-materials resale center. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, he was forced to evacuate his home and relocate to another state. He returned to New Orleans in October and discovered that the sander still worked perfectly. "Bodine had some pretty slick engineers back in the day," he said.

From supplying a dentist with a specially designed motor for an electric tooth drill in 1905, the company has provided motors for such diverse applications as movie cameras and projectors, phonographs, jukeboxes, scientific instruments, office equipment, WWII aircraft fuel pumps, photocopiers, medical scanners, printing presses, factory automation, food service equipment, and many other applications.

Bodine Electric Company is celebrating its 100th anniversary of manufacturing fractional horsepower electric motors and controls in 2005. Still family owned, Bodine is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and offers more than 850 stock motors and gearmotors worldwide, including AC, DC, and Brushless DC. Bodine also offers built-to-order products with engineering support for concurrent product development. All items are available from a strategically located network of Bodine MotionPRO Sales Reps and Authorized Distributors worldwide.
