John Horsley makes statement on use of federal highway funds.

Press Release Summary:

According to John Horsley, AASHTO Executive Director, state transportation officials have achieved goal of obligating every dime of federal-aid highway funds that were made available last year under American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The more than 12,000 highway recovery projects are evidence that transportation investment pays off by providing good-paying jobs and long-lasting improvements. States can repeat this effort if Congress provides additional resources for highways and transit.

Statement by John Horsley, Executive Director On States Using "Every Dime" of Federal Highway Recovery Dollars

"State transportation officials have achieved the goal of obligating every dime of the federal-aid highway funds that were made available last year under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Not one cent will be returned to the federal government for redistribution.

"The more than 12,000 highway recovery projects around the country are clear evidence that transportation investment pays off twice - first with good-paying jobs for workers and second with the long-lasting improvements made to our transportation system.

"States can repeat this outstanding effort if Congress provides additional resources for highways and transit. Some 9,800 projects worth $79 billion are ready-to-go and waiting - a vital opportunity to boost the economic recovery and put people back to work."
