John Fletcher is Named Chair of ASTM International Paint and Related Coatings Committee



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., March 25, 2010-John Fletcher, technical support manager at Elcometer Ltd. in Manchester, England, has been named chairman of ASTM International Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications.

Committee D01 includes more than 600 members who oversee 630 ASTM standards that cover components of paint and related coating materials, on-site applied paint and coatings, factory-applied paint and coatings, and paint application. In addition to his work as chair of the main committee, Fletcher also leads Subcommittee D01.23 on Physical Properties of Applied Paint Film. He has been a member of ASTM International since 2007.

Fletcher began his career as a development group leader at Mullard Hazel Grove Ltd. in Manchester in 1969. He joined Elcometer Ltd., then called Elcometer Instruments Ltd., in 1982. Over the next few years, he worked with coating test methods and equipment in various capacities at Elcometer and assumed the role of technical support manager in 1998.

Outside ASTM International, Fletcher is a member of the Society for Protective Coatings and he is a fellow of the Institute of Corrosion. He holds a higher national certificate (HNC) degree in electronics from Stockport Technical College and a professional diploma/certificate in management from Manchester Polytechnic, both in Manchester.
