Innovations to Help Medical Customers Reduce Process Variability at NPE 2012

ORLANDO, Florida - Husky Injection Molding Systems today announced that at NPE 2012 (April 2 - 5, Orlando, Florida) it is showcasing its range of medical products and technologies which help to eliminate variation from the injection molding process.

Located at Booth #3763 in the West Hall, Husky will be running a medical workcell that includes its H-MED AETM (all-electric) injection molding system for cleanroom medical molding, a 64-drop Ultra 500 hot runner with UltraSync(TM)-E technology running in an ICU Medical mold, Altanium® temperature controller and Shotscope NX® process and productivity monitoring software.

The system will be producing a 0.35 gram IV breather cap. The LDPE breather cap is produced within an operating window of +/- 0.002 grams of variability, showing the system to be one of the medical molding industry's most precise.

"Building on our position as a global leader in medical hot runners and controllers, Husky's medical workcell is optimized to deliver the precision and repeatability medical molders demand," said Glenn Chessell, Husky's Business Development Manager, Medical. "By providing all components of an integrated system, we give medical customers complete melt stream control, resulting in greater repeatability and higher quality parts."

When Prestige Mold recently established its molding division, Pres-Tek Plastics, it chose complete medical molding systems from Husky. "We first got to know Husky as a hot runner supplier," said Donna Pursell, CEO of Prestige Mold and President of Pres-Tek Plastics. "After seeing the progress they made in developing medical-focused technologies like H-MED AE, UltraSync-E and Ultra SideGate, we see that utilizing Shotscope NX is an excellent way for us to monitor and control our processes, ensure top quality and manage operational data within our newly formed medical molding operations."

Husky's UltraSync technology offers shot-to-shot and part-to-part consistency through precise stem closing, which helps eliminate variability from the injection molding process. UltraSync is ideal for high precision molding of small parts, allowing for a minimum nozzle spacing of 18mm.

Also well suited for medical customers is Husky's new Ultra SideGate hot runner technology. Ultra SideGate is an ideal solution for deep draw parts such as pipettes, syringe barrels and other smaller parts where quality and gate vestige are critical.

Husky's Altanium temperature controllers provide the industry's most accurate temperature control and are equipped with an intuitive touch-screen interface and Active Reasoning Technology to help remove variation from the injection molding process.

Husky's Shotscope NX system allows molders to collect, manage and analyze production information in order to maximize productivity and reduce downtime, while also satisfying regulatory requirements for document management. It provides customers with a systematic approach to identifying and reducing sources of variation throughout the entire workcell which results in the ability to produce consistent, high-quality parts.

In addition to its full range of products for the medical market, Husky offers an unmatched level of global support in over 40 countries and a range of aftermarket services to keep equipment running at maximum efficiency.
