Industry's First Post-Consumer Recycled Line of Polystyrenes from Styrolution Showcased at the International Plastics Showcase, NPE 2012

Three grades of polystyrene each feature 25 percent PCR content

CHANNAHON, Ill. - The industry's first line of polystyrene products containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) polystyrene will highlight Styrolution America LLC's presence at the upcoming NPE 2012 International Plastics Showcase in Orlando, which runs from April 2-5.

The product line from Styrolution, the leading global styrenics supplier, includes three product grades, each with 25 percent PCR content, which is supplied by NextLife(TM) - a collaborative manufacturer of sustainable plastic resins for use in a variety of applications.

These grades are FDA-compliant for food contact and designed for injection molding and extrusion applications requiring consistent resin properties. The resins, which process the same as 100 percent virgin polystyrene, target injection molded opaque applications, such as cutlery, housewares, office accessories and appliance components.

The three products in the Styrolution PCR polystyrene line include:

- PCR3125 - for use in injection molding applications, the product is
based on a 3100 general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) grade with 25 percent
recycled contents;

- PCR5625 - also used in injection molding applications, PCR5625 is based
on a 5600 high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) grade with 25 percent recycled
content; and

- PCR6225 - for use in extrusion applications, the product is based on a
6200 HIPS grade with 25 percent recycled content.

"This product line proves that polystyrene is absolutely a recyclable product," said Ed Barnes, vice president, Styrolution. "We look forward to demonstrating the value of this sustainable line of products with our customers at NPE 2012, and also look forward to working within our industry to increase the reclamation and reuse of polystyrene materials into eco-friendly end products."
