Industrial Filters Reclaim Fuel Oil at Veolia Environmental Services

Self-Cleaning Russell Eco Filters replace inefficient basket filters to remove debris from fuel oil

Veolia is one of the world's largest waste management companies who focus on the recovery of hydrocarbons, diesel oils and industrial solvents. One of Veolia's core recovery processes is the manufacture of a secondary liquid fuel (SLF) from liquid wastes. These liquid wastes are carefully recovered by Veolia and then blended, macerated and filtered before being delivered to cement manufacturers. After the mixing and blending process, Veolia discovered that debris remained in the resultant fuel oil, which compromised the quality of the SLF. Basket filters were used as check-screeners to remove the debris, but due to frequent blockages this led to equipment downtime and lengthy cleaning by operators. Veolia realized that the inefficient basket filters could not keep up with production requirements and a better, more reliable filtration solution was needed fast, so they contacted Russell Finex to help accomplish their goals.

After seeing the Russell filters in action, Veolia decided to replace the basket filters with two Self-Cleaning Russell Eco Filters, which immediately solved the problem and improved the production process. The unique design of the industrial liquid filter for fuel oil ensures that material flow passes through the filter screen while the screen is automatically cleaned using a rotating wiper inside the element. The Russell Eco Filter® wiper system continuously cleans the filter element surface to maintain maximum open screen area. This provides a consistent throughput rate and prevents a build-up of differential pressure.

Following the installation of the Self-Cleaning Russell Eco Filter®, Veolia have quickly recouped the cost of their new investment. Productivity at the tank-filling stage has improved by more than 50% and the company has more than doubled their overall throughput.
