IFS software developer receives Oracle Developer of the Year award

LINKÖPING, Sweden, Nov. 10, 2005 - IFS announced today that Håkan Arpfors, a senior developer at IFS' headquarters in Linköping, Sweden, has been named PL/SQL Developer of the Year by Oracle Magazine. The editors of the bimonthly magazine, published by Oracle Corp., announced the award in the November/December 2005 issue as part of the annual Editors' Choice Awards, which recognize "some of the most visionary, engaging, forward-thinking people working with Oracle technology, from every region of the world."

IFS uses the Oracle database to store all its data, and a combination of PL/SQL, Java(TM), and J2EE(TM) application servers for business logic, the web, and portals.

"PL/SQL is very relevant, from my perspective," Arpfors said. "Oracle has added lots of new features to PL/SQL, and since it works so close to the data you get the best performance. By using PL/SQL together with Java and J2EE, we have the best technology for data as well as computing and communication-intensive activities."

Arpfors works in IFS' R&D division on IFS Foundation1(TM), the technology platform of IFS' component-based enterprise software suite, IFS Applications(TM). He works closely with some of Oracle's development teams to exchange current ideas, strategies, and developments relating to IFS Applications and PL/SQL. Arpfors is responsible for staying informed about new Oracle technologies and deciding which concepts or features should be used, as well as creating guidelines for developers on how to use these features.

"Our design criteria for the IFS Foundation1 platform is to keep it secure and enable good performance, as well as keeping it open, flexible, and scalable," Arpfors said.

"We're very proud of Håkan and would like to thank Oracle for recognizing his outstanding work with IFS Foundation1 and PL/SQL," said Hans Rune Rønningen, Senior Vice President of Products for IFS. "IFS and Oracle have been collaborating for over two decades, beginning with our selection of Oracle's database server as the main platform for IFS Applications. We have great confidence in Oracle's database technology, and this award demonstrates their confidence in IFS' technology platform."
