Overview

Remote call-in support is available for the 16-port LAN-attached RAN (7036-P16). The Machine Control Program Remote Support Agreement (MCRSA) enables a single-site or worldwide enterprise customer to maintain software entitlement for the RAN via remote call-in support throughout the life of the MCRSA.

The RAN is designed for use with IBM System p5(TM), p5, pSeries®, or OpenPower(TM) systems. It delivers connectivity to asynchronous EIA(TM) 232 devices, such as modems, TTY terminals, printers, and card scanners with the appropriate cables. It converts serial data stream to and from attached asynchronous serial EIA 232 devices into TCP/IP traffic. After the data is on the TCP/IP network, a host system attached to the same network can treat the attached devices as if the devices were connected directly to the host system.

For more information on the RAN (EIA 232), refer to Hardware Announcement 105-402 , dated October 4, 2005.

A 24-hours-per-day, 7-day-a-week support coverage option is also available through this offering for an additional charge.

One year of MCRSA is automatically included for new licenses of programs covered in this announcement. A three-year MCRSA option is also available as an extended coverage option.

Note that IBM may refer to the Machine Control Program Remote Support Agreement as the Agreement for Machine Control Program Remote Support or as MCRSA.

Description

Machine Control Program Remote Support Agreement
MCRSA for the 16-port LAN-attached RAN is a one-year or three-year contract offering that enables you to maintain voice support during normal business hours. If you allow either the one- or three-year MCRSA offering to expire without renewal, simply reorder MCRSA to reinstate support.

Contract duration: The one-year or three-year prepay option must be purchased at the same time as the RAN.

Refunds do not apply if cancellation occurs during the one- or three-year contract period. Customers are not required to renew under either the one- or three-year offering when the contract expires.

If the one- or three-year contracts are not renewed, the contracts will be removed from IBM administrative systems. Contract transfers within an enterprise are allowed.

MCRSA for 7036-P16 machine code prices: License entitlement for the RAN (7036-P16) is based on a single server. A one-year (5771-LA1) or three-year (5773-LA3) MCRSA must be purchased at the same time as purchase of a new 7036-P16.

Minimum contract value: None

Upgrade deliverables: None

Adding new agreements to an existing contract: New agreements cannot be added to an existing MCRSA. No proration is allowed. As new 7036-P16s are added, a new MCRSA must be ordered for those RANs.

Adding previously installed agreements to an existing contract: You cannot add previously installed 16-port LAN-attached RAN (7036-P16) serial numbers to an existing MCRSA contract. These support agreements should be added using the renewal feature under a new and separate MCRSA. For existing systems, the support expires when the originally dated MCRSA is not renewed.

MCRSA for 7036-P16 machine code one- and three-year one-time charge structure: A one- and three-year prepay option (represented by two separate program numbers)

Ordering information

Charge metric: The MCRSA for 16-port LAN-attached RAN (7036-P16) is a support agreement with one charge unit per server. A one-year (5771-LA1) or three-year (5773-LA3) MCRSA must be purchased at the same time as purchase of a new 7036-P16.

Server

A PoE is evidence of your authorization to use a program and is required for each machine on which the program or a component of the program is run.

Programs are "installed" onto a storage device, which may or may not be part of the server; thus, "run" is important here as the program may be stored on a CD, storage area network (SAN), available via SCSI, and so on.
The number of partitions or processors on the server is irrelevant.
Where "blade" technology is employed, each "blade" is considered a separate server.
