Husky to Demonstrate Range of Innovative PET Preform Molding Solutions at K 2016, Highlighting Revolutionary Multi - Layer Barrier Technology

BOLTON, Ontario – Husky Injection Molding Systems, a leading industrial technology provider to the plastics processing community, today announced that at K 2016 (Booth A61 in Hall 13) they will showcase their vast range of PET preform molding solutions, including a dedicated Experience Center highlighting their revolutionary Multi-Layer Barrier Technology. Introduced in 2015, the technology offers tremendous opportunity to unlock the potential for conversions from alternate packaging to PET, while providing enhanced product protection in a better looking package.

“As a leader and pioneer in PET preform manufacturing, Husky has always invested in helping our customers grow their businesses through development of novel and innovative technologies that push the boundaries of what is possible today. Our Multi-Layer Barrier Technology represents the next step in this initiative,” said Dave Morton, Husky’s Vice President, Barrier Solutions. “This technology is truly best-in-class. We are excited about the positive results we’ve seen with early adopters and are more excited about how this technology will create new opportunities for our customers by allowing them to explore PET as a packaging material for products requiring the safety of enhanced barrier properties that were traditionally packaged in glass, carton and aluminum.”

Husky’s Multi-Layer Barrier Technology has seen positive acceptance in the market. The technology is built on the company’s industry-leading HyPET® HPP5 platform, combining the benefits of a robust, high performing and easy-to-maintain system with the capability to precisely dose the barrier layer. In addition, the technology supports recyclability by reducing the amount of barrier material required, as well as demonstrating the potential to integrate new recyclable barrier materials into PET packaging.

Husky’s Experience Center at K Show will highlight the technology’s capability to effectively support different barriers for multiple applications, including for dairies, juices, sauces, teas and carbonated soft drinks. Also on display will be a Multi-Layer Barrier hot runner, which uses a co-injection solution with an advanced melt delivery system and enhanced controls to precisely distribute the barrier material.

Husky has a long history of developing best-in-class solutions that take the capability of injection molding technology for PET preforms to exciting new levels. In collaboration with customers, the company has introduced more new applications to the global market than any other PET equipment supplier. At K 2016, Husky will present its complete range of fully integrated injection molding solutions for all volumes and applications. Husky’s exhibit will highlight its commitment to optimizing customers’ production while reducing total part cost and minimizing risk.

Working with long-time partner Intravis Vision Systems, Husky will also be running a LayerWatcher preform inspection system to provide assurance of barrier protection and package security. Sold exclusively through Husky, the LayerWatcher uses coherent infrared light to accurately measure the barrier layer. Rather than measure just one point, the LayerWatcher provides higher data acquisition rates to obtain a complete description of preform layers and reconstruct three dimensional images and sections. This capability makes the LayerWatcher ideally suited for measuring the barrier accuracy of preforms of all translucencies and colors. Data is also presented in grayscale scan images, making the barrier layer quality visually easy to access. To showcase the LayerWatcher capabilities, Husky will be running demonstrations at K Show assuring the multi-layer security of barrier preforms for a variety of applications.
