HP Bridges Human Information and Extreme Data to Drive Customer Insight, Foresight, Action

New HP Information Optimization solutions power Instant-On Enterprises to better decision making

VIENNA, Nov. 29, 2011 - HP today extended its Information Optimization portfolio with new solutions that help enterprises turn information and ideas into insights to drive better decision making.

An explosion of data from new sources is challenging traditional methods for storing and analyzing information. For example, only 15 percent of data is found in structured formats that computers understand.

HP's new offerings for the Instant-On Enterprise enable organizations to discover and act on types of information that have previously been difficult to analyze, including:

o Human information - the data found in video, audio, email, texts, social media and more, which accounts for 85 percent of the world's data and provides richer meaning consisting of ideas and concepts; and

o Extreme information - the growing data generated from sensors and tags, which provides new opportunities for organizations to exploit.

New research conducted on behalf of HP reveals that more than 50 percent of information within an organization remains unconnected, undiscovered and unused.(1) Nearly one out of two executives surveyed indicated that their organizations lack an effective information strategy that cuts across organizational silos, technologies and strategic functions.

In addition, only 2 percent of surveyed executives said their organizations can deliver the right information at the right time to support the right business outcomes 100 percent of the time.
"Exploiting information across its many forms is the next big wave to drive competitive advantage," said Jan Zadak, executive vice president, Global Sales, HP. " With HP's strong portfolio of Information Optimization solutions, enterprises can harness the power of 100 percent of their data to drive insight, foresight and action."

HP Next Generation Information Platform

The HP Next Generation Information Platform - IDOL 10 - enables organizations to automatically understand and act on a combination of human and extreme information by identifying ideas and patterns in place and in real time.

The combination of an information processing layer from Autonomy, an HP Company, with a high-performance, real-time analytics engine from Vertica, an HP Company, allows organizations to analyze 100 percent of unstructured, semi-structured and structured information in a consistent, uniform way.

HP Autonomy Appliances

New HP Autonomy Appliances provide organizations with simplified, reliable archiving, eDiscovery and enterprise search. Powered by IDOL 10, the appliances allow organizations to quickly use and extract metadata from all data types and sources.

The eDiscovery appliance provides analysis of critical data points to case status, data volume and litigation trends. With the enterprise search appliance, enterprises can categorize, tag, link, retrieve and profile of all forms of data to deliver large volumes of pertinent information.

HP Social Intelligence Solution and HP Advanced Information Services

The HP Social Intelligence Solution helps organizations harness unstructured data generated in social media channels to optimize the customer experience, manage brand reputation, empower resources and drive product innovation.

In addition, HP Advanced Information Services for Vertica accelerate the implementation of the Vertica Analytics Platform, which analyzes structured, semi-structured and unstructured data on a massive scale to quickly gain critical business insight. These services assist clients in defining their specific data analysis requirements and determining the best options for integrating the Vertica Analytics Platform into their existing infrastructures.

HP Converged Storage

Designed for customers with big data requirements, the new HP B6200 StoreOnce Backup System is the industry's fastest large-scale deduplication appliance at 28 terabytes (TB) per hour(2) and is the only offering in its class to provide fully automated high availability.(3)

New HP Data Protector software integrates the StoreOnce deduplication engine based on technology developed by HP Labs, the company's central research arm, to deliver high-performance and resource-efficient data backup for smaller IT environments.

For midsize clients, a new high-density Converged Storage appliance, the HP X5000 G2 Network Storage System designed by HP and Microsoft, offers simplicity and efficiency to manage rapidly growing human information content. Capable of supporting more than 10,000 users on a single system, it is easily expandable to more than 100 TB of capacity.(4)

HP IT Performance Suite

The HP IT Performance Suite enables IT management to improve performance with operational intelligence. The enterprise performance platform delivers a comprehensive view across all IT assets, automates IT management and adjusts IT performance to meet specific business goals.

o HP IT Performance Suite: VP of Operations Edition contains more than 50 out-of-the-box key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive better performance measurement, as well as automation, delivery and monitoring of services. It features HP Business Service Management 9.1 software, which helps anticipate IT incidents before they happen, enabling IT management to analyze and remediate potential issues before they affect operations.

o HP IT Performance Suite: VP of Applications Edition benchmarks performance data against more than 60 out-of-the-box KPIs and uses HP Application Lifecycle Management software to optimize application development.

HP Information Optimization is a core component of an Instant-On Enterprise. In a world of continuous connectivity, the Instant-On Enterprise embeds technology in everything it does to serve customers, employees, partners and citizens with whatever they need, instantly.
