Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey Selects Portico® NPI Solution

Philadelphia, PA, July x, 2006 - Portico(TM) Systems, the leader in Provider Network Operations solutions, announced today that Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey has selected the Portico® NPI Solution. This project will enable Horizon BCBSNJ to comply with the National Provider Identifier (NPI) final rule, while minimizing impact to its existing provider network operations systems. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 requires the adoption and use of a standard unique identifier for health care providers to be used in health care transactions.

Currently health plans use different identification numbers for health care providers, requiring multiple identification numbers for those providers who deal with more than one health plan. The deadline for compliance for most providers is May 23, 2007.

"Using Portico's NPI solution will simplify our work so we will be able to meet the deadline for NPI compliance and be able to service our health care professionals and members effectively," said Anne Quigg, Director eBusiness, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.

Portico® NPI Solution is the first to holistically address a health plan's NPI compliance needs, including the collection of NPIs from providers and supporting the plans transaction processing to utilize NPI. This solution helps alleviate the risk of building and integrating a complex crosswalk to address the universe of the plan's contractual agreements with its providers. In addition, Portico® NPI enables plans to minimize the significant costs associated with remediation of its legacy applications, including claims engines and provider data systems, required to achieve NPI compliance.

The solution is comprised of the NPI Registrar, a web-based portal for collection of provider NPIs for all provider types, NPI Provider, a crosswalk inquiry and maintenance application for Provider Network Operations staff, and NPI Gateway, an enterprise service for two-way cross walking of NPIs to legacy identifiers and other critical data elements. The solution will also leverage Portico® Foundation, the Portico® Platform framework that includes components such as a configurable business rules engine, role-based security, workflow management, reporting, and data administration functionality.

"We are excited to be working with Horizon to help address the NPI mandate." stated Ned Moore, CEO of Portico(TM) Systems. "With Horizon's selection of our Portico NPI solution we will help them holistically meet the business complexities they face with using the NPI in transaction processing."
