Honeywell Customer Wins Hart Plant Of The Year Award

PHOENIX, Nov. 01, 2005 - The HART* Communication Foundation announced at the
recent ISA show in Chicago that Honeywell's (NYSE:HON) customer, Sasol, has
won the 2005 HART Plant of the Year award for its chemical plant at
Sasolburg, Free State in South Africa. The prestigious award from the HART
Communication Foundation recognizes innovative use of HART Communication in
real-time industrial process plant applications. Each year the award
recipients include plants that take the capabilities of their HART-enabled
instrumentation beyond configuration and calibration to improve operations
and optimize asset productivity.
Sasol won after rolling out its vision to leverage and maximize its
investment in HART enabled equipment purchased for its solvents plant in
Sasolburg. The final solution encompassed technologies that were integrated
into a single centralized asset management system.
Specifically, Sasol's plant is maximizing the use of all technologies
available to leverage the device diagnostic information in their HART
enabled instrumentation. The main benefit is the ability to effect
instrumentation repairs before a plant trip/shutdown occurs. This work
process is supported by a site-wide asset management solution, which is
monitoring for failures and guiding the maintenance team in the repair
process.
Paul Orzeske, General Manager and VP at Honeywell EMEA, commented: "We are
delighted that our customer was able to win this excellent award. Sasol was
able to deliver on their vision of plant asset management and their success
should be recognized throughout the industry."
Johan Claassen, Engineering Manager at Sasol, commented: "We have excellent
experience with HART technology and have standardized on HART as a
technology for our field devices in the company. In particular, one of the
major improvement areas at Sasol that HART has helped deliver is the speed
of communication between field operations."
The HART Plant of the Year is a unique award in the process
automation industry. It is the only public award presented to end user
companies to recognize ingenuity in the application of HART technology. The
award showcases end user companies and their suppliers who have demonstrated
creativity in using the full capabilities of HART Communication to improve
operations, lower costs and increase availability.
