Honeywell Becomes Associate Member Of Cape-Open Laboratories Network

PHOENIX, Oct. 13, 2005 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today announced the
approval of its membership in the CAPE-OPEN Laboratories Network (Co-LaN).
Co-LaN is a neutral industry and academic association promoting open
interface standards in process simulation software.
CAPE-OPEN compliant interface is an industry standard for software
developers. Products that meet this standard are "CO Compliant" and can
integrate seamlessly with other "CO Compliant" applications.
"This membership enhances Honeywell's UniSim(tm) simulation solution because
our design, operator training and optimization solutions will allow our
customers access to technologies from other providers, as well enabling them
to integrate their own technologies into a comprehensive simulation
solution" said Rob Eastick, UniSim Product Manager, Honeywell Process
Solutions.
The UniSim solution lets process manufacturers design, test new processes
offline, and train employees prior to implementing the process. Once the new
process is online, the UniSim solution supports process control and
optimization, performance monitoring and business planning.
Being a CO-LaN member puts Honeywell at the "learning edge," acquiring the
ability to create business and technology architectures that take full
advantage of transparent access to CAPE resources. Through CO-LaN
membership, Honeywell and its customers will benefit in the following ways:
* Decreased Time to Market. CAPE software providers share the
cost of foundation technology (the interface definition), decreasing product
time-to-market and lengthening the period for their product life cycles.
* Influencing the Technology Adoption Process. CAPE software
providers and users, through well-proven collaboration mechanisms, jointly
shape CAPE standards that better meet needs, hence enabling suppliers and
users to make sound and timely business and technology development decisions
based on known and quantified requirements.
* Networking with Industry Experts. CO-LaN allows software
providers and users to develop a convenient means to discuss CAPE issues in
an informed manner and solve shared problems.
* Increased Return On Investment. Market participants can
assure that investments made in building the foundation for CAPE
interoperability meets their product planning and operational needs.
* Implementing New Business Models. The innovative component
technology behind the CO standard will facilitate new business models for
simulation software vendors who will be able to act as application service
providers.
