Barberton and Wadsworth High Schools to Host Manufacturing Education Events to Kick Off Participation in the Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education (PRIME®) Initiative
WHAT: Barberton and Wadsworth High Schools will host a series of events to launch their participation in the Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education (PRIME®) national network of schools, sponsored by the SME Education Foundation, Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation. PRIME® provides advanced manufacturing curriculum to high schools to build a pipeline of much-needed skilled workers for the industry. Students from both schools will showcase their robotics, engineering, and machining programs during demonstrations at Barberton’s Friday night football game on Manufacturing Day, Oct. 2. Wadsworth will play host to this event at its game on Oct. 9.
WHO:  Students participating in PRIME® are part of a consortium of four schools that make up the Four Cities Compact in Ohio. In addition to the PRIME® students taking part in these events, representatives from the SME Education Foundation, Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation, and Parker Hannifin will be available to talk to parents, students and community members about the benefits of pursuing a career in advanced manufacturing.

WHY:   PRIME®, established by the SME Education Foundation in 2011, actively engages and builds a collaborative network between K-12 education and industry in a tailored approach to develop the next generation skilled workforce while driving interest and awareness in manufacturing. In a community approach to education, the SME Education Foundation works with school administrators, educators and industry partners such as Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation to develop and implement advanced manufacturing programs and STEM experiences that provide students with access to SME partners and resources, as well as opportunities to receive access to industry vetted curricula, credentialing, mentoring, job shadowing and internships.
