Henkel Celebrates Grand Opening of Yantai, China Solder Sphere Facility

Following the successful acquisition of leading Taiwanese solder sphere manufacturer Accurus Scientific Company Limited in late 2006, Henkel has marked yet another milestone in the accelerated growth of its latest product line. Last month, the electronics group of Henkel welcomed more than 300 distinguished guests and employees to the grand opening of its new Yantai, China solder sphere production facility.

Based on the extraordinary efforts of Henkel's Global Product Manager Dr. Mark Currie, Accurus founder Henry Wang and Henkel Key Account Managers worldwide, there has been quick and broad market acceptance of the Accurus solder sphere products, necessitating increased capacity and a second manufacturing hub. Henkel celebrated the dedication of its most recent manufacturing site with much fanfare, including a marching band, a traditional Chinese lion dance and welcoming comments from Dr. Krautter, Henkel Executive Vice President, and Mr. Albrecht Woeste, Chairman of the Henkel Shareholders' Committee. Other honored guests included Henkel Shareholder Committee Members Dr. Bagel-Trah and Mr. Stefan Hamelmann, as well as Mr. Jan-Dirk Auris, Henkel Adhesives Technologies Regional President, Mr. Faruk Arig, Henkel Adhesives Technologies Regional Vice-President, and Accurus founder, Mr. Henry Wang.

Henkel's new 4,100 square meter Yantai plant will manufacture solder spheres and Type 1 through Type 7 solder powders for the semiconductor packaging and printed circuit board assembly markets. Based on a unique production technology developed by Accurus, Henkel's solder spheres offer a diameter range and a process capability that cannot be matched by traditional manufacturing methods. The new facility in Yantai, China is Henkel's second sphere manufacturing plant. The first is the original Accurus facility located in Tainan, Taiwan.

Commenting on the new facility during his opening remarks at the dedication event, Henkel's Mr. Albrecht Woeste noted the loyalty and enthusiasm of the Henkel team in Yantai. "It is such an honor to be here to mark this historic occasion and celebrate the continued success and expansion of Henkel's product portfolio and global reach," said Woeste. "But, even more impressive is the commitment, technical expertise and perseverance of the Henkel team - it is truly the people behind the products that enable our success and have brought us to this exciting time."

The addition of Multicore® brand Accurus solder spheres to Henkel's product portfolio broadens the company's complete value chain offerings, delivering a total materials solution to packaging and assembly specialists worldwide. Henkel is the only global materials supplier who delivers products developed in-package and in-process for all phases of semiconductor packaging and PCB assembly processes.
