Go Orange - And Shine Light on Kidney Disease

Victor, New York – March is National Kidney Month, and Bulb Direct is donating 100 orange light bulbs to support the National Kidney Foundation’s “Shine Light on Kidney Disease” prevention and awareness program. Each bulb will be used to swap out one regular light bulb in a local home or business in Western New York to raise sensitivity to the growing prevalence of chronic kidney disease. Orange is the signature color of the National Kidney Foundation.

“Kidney disease is more common than you might think,” notes Diana Jason, Development Director at the WNY chapter of the Kidney Foundation. “It is astonishing that 1 in 9 Americans - roughly 26 million people - have chronic kidney disease. The good news is that by catching any problems early, people can slow and maybe stop the progression of kidney disease.”

To arrange delivery of an orange bulb, contact Elissa Rowley at the National Kidney Foundation (585-598-3963 x31). Bulbs can also be picked up at the National Kidney Foundation’s office located at 310 Packett’s Landing in Fairport.

“We’re happy that such a simple thing – swapping out a light bulb – can help people acknowledge a growing health concern,” says Deb Bullock-Smith, Vice President of Bulb Direct. “If ‘going orange’ spurs even one person to take steps toward early diagnosis or prevention, I consider it a success.”
