Get a Grant for Making Energy Upgrades to Your School

CHESTERLAND OH — Are you a school board member or a contracted service technician trying to prove energy and HVAC savings? Increasingly, many states are offering substantial grants for installing 'green' energy solutions which often pay for themselves in a few years—these improvements include heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) upgrades and controls for boilers, furnaces and solar collectors. When you're looking to purchase a data logger and all the necessary accessories including leads and coils, you can easily go over your initial budget. Now CAS DataLoggers and Electrocorder are providing school districts with the affordable technology to conduct energy auditing and maintain funding. With our 3-phase Voltage, Current and Power Factor Data Logger Kit, you pay one low price and you’re ready to start your project and realize significant savings.

With the growing need for cost-saving alternative energy sources, it's become even easier to get financing with your energy service provider for smart energy upgrades. This will also lower your operating costs while cutting emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. As part of the eligibility process, most financiers request institutions to collect their own performance data and present benefit assessments (energy audits) in return for these building upgrades and for reimbursement of costs.

Our low-cost power metering kit simultaneously identifies and proves your energy savings to financiers. The data logger monitors power (kW) and energy (kWh) usage, checks voltage and current variations to diagnose any related issues, and gathers data to make representations to power suppliers and grant authorities. The power metering kit is available in 4 models recording at different amp ranges, from 4A to 3kA (90kVA-690kVA per phase to 270kVA-2MVA total).

The logger travels with the user in its included carrying case, recording and storing the loading and energy consumption throughout the building. The kit enables users to view onsite power consumption given in kilowatt hours as a result of recording in order to realize substantial energy savings. Since our product records both voltage and current, users can determine if low voltage is related to high current demands onsite or if the low voltage is being supplied.

The kit has everything you need for your single and 3-phase equipment, including the datalogger itself, 4 voltage leads, 3 Rogowski Coils, a USB lead for quick data retrieval, free software, and the carrying case. In cases where only a single-phase voltage supply is available, the datalogger can still monitor and record 3-phase energy using 3 current inputs and a single-phase voltage input rather than the normal 3 voltage inputs.

Our datalogger kit is also ideal for generating your school's own regular internal energy efficiency reports. The average voltage supply for buildings often turns out to be higher than the ideal operating voltage for most electrical equipment such as lighting and motors. Given all the appliances in a school, this cost quickly adds up, so you can realize additional savings by submetering using the logger. Apart from this benefit, you can also find and troubleshoot voltage supply faults and power spikes, especially useful during fault-prone seasons.

Other datalogger brands briefly wake up to take a single 'snapshot' sample but then go back to sleep, missing nearly all of the data you need to spot problem areas. By contrast, our new Electrocorder kit samples each cycle multiple times, enabling truly detailed metering to give you the more accurate picture.

Additionally, the kit includes free Electrosoft software, allowing users to define the voltage to plot power and energy and then simply upload all recorded data via USB to a PC for analysis. Power factor is recorded for the voltage channel L1 and the current channel A1; this is then used to calculate the real (Watts), reactive (VARs) and apparent (VA) power for all 3 phases using Electrosoft. Power factor measurement also allows users to determine if power factor correction is needed onsite. CAS DataLoggers also provides FREE expert tech support with all our products so that it’s easy for users to get up and running.

Our Applications Specialist Wayne Porter comments on the new kit’s utility: "Schools in many areas can get funding to increase their energy efficiency and save on power costs. Our Electrocorder kit has everything they need to prove their savings and stay qualified with government and service providers."
