Germanow-Simon Corp. Completes Renovation Project

Germanow-Simon Corp. celebrated the recent completion of a $3.25 million upgrade to the company's facilities located at 408 St. Paul Street in Rochester, NY. Earlier this month several local and regional political leaders joined the ribbon cutting ceremony, which signified great promise for the future growth of this 96-year old manufacturing company.

The construction project was started in September 2011 and has been completed a year later. The goals were impressive and included doubling space for injection molding and quality assurance operations, improving the functionality and cleanliness for those spaces, making the buildings more energy efficient, and creating an overall environment that reflected and was appropriate for the high tech components and products the G-S Companies manufacture.

Now completed, the renovated and greatly expanded space will help the G-S Companies to serve customer's needs for expanded production capacity in the future. Creatively re-using existing space in the century old buildings is a "green" solution and creates a more desirable work environment for the staff.

Germanow-Simon Corp. consists of two operating companies: G-S Plastic Optics and Tel-Tru Manufacturing Co. Germanow-Simon Corp. is one of Rochester's oldest continually operating manufacturing businesses and was founded in 1916. President Andy Germanow remarked, "The biggest advantage to continuing to use our existing site, and remaining in Rochester, is keeping a team of people in place who work together every day to satisfy the quality and service expectations of our customers. Because there are people in Rochester with the right skills and temperament for the kind of manufacturing work we specialize in, this business has been able to prosper for 95 years."

G-S Plastic Optics is one of the few companies in the world to specialize exclusively in the custom design and manufacture of precision polymer optics for use in LED illumination systems, imaging, scanning, and detection applications worldwide. The company has in-house capability to provide diamond turned and injection molded prototypes, production injection molding, multi-layer thin film and metallic reflective coatings and integrated optical solutions to meet a wide range of military, medical, commercial and consumer markets.

Tel-Tru Manufacturing Company is a world-class manufacturer and supplier of bimetal thermometers, pressure gauges and transmitters. Its products are available through a network of distributors in the United States and around the world.

Germanow-Simon Corp. currently employs 93 people. At the beginning of this project, they employed 77 people, and they are projecting 25 new jobs within the next five years.

Assistance for the project was provided by the NYS Brownfield Cleanup Program, the City of Rochester, COMIDA, Empire State Development, the US Environmental Protection Agency and HSBC Bank.
