Genesis Configuration Leads Platform Solutions to Energize Assembly

Universal Instruments will demonstrate dynamic solutions to current assembly challenges at APEX 2007, including placing 01005s for handheld and wearable electronics, automotive assembly using leading-edge package styles, and building large boards for networking, telecom, and military applications. Three assembly lines, one featuring Universal's SMT Vision Award-winning Genesis GC-120Q Platform, will highlight the flexible performance of Universal's Genesis and AdVantis platform placement machines on booth 2301.
Universal's new flagship Genesis GC-120Q, enters the market as the fastest quad-gantry machine in the industry with four 30,000 cph Lightning heads. Assembling an advanced cellphone design on the booth, the 01005 demonstration will highlight the speed of the GC-120Q for high-volume assembly of standard products, partnered by the multi-function GX-11S capable of taking on any duty from 0201 placement to connectors as large as 150mm with a placement force of up to 5kg . Both of these recently introduced platform configurations have greatly improved the range of capabilities of the Genesis portfolio, now able to excel in production environments ranging from NPI to high-volume consumer.
The flexible GX-11S will also partner with a Genesis GC-30S single-gantry, Lightning-equipped machine to demonstrate wide-ranging placement capabilities and effective line balancing to deliver high cph rates for more complex assemblies measuring up to 24" x 32". The GC-30S and GX-11S, combined, represent the ideal solution for assembly of carrier-class telecom, high-speed LAN, high-performance computing, and broadband Internet products.
The AdVantis platform demonstration proposes a high-performance, value-driven, turnkey configuration for high-mix environments. With recent throughput improvements, the AdVantis AC-30L platform (now up to 33,600 cph) with Lightning head, plus an AdVantis AX-72e (now up to 18,900 cph) multi-function dual-head machine, will be placing components ranging from 0201s to QFPs and connectors in a product demonstration. Universal's technical and market specialists will explain how the AdVantis platform combines best-in-class speed and accuracy, low cost per placement, and fast and easy changeover with valuable NPI tools.
In addition to the class-leading outright speed of both the Genesis and AdVantis platforms, the flexibility afforded by the patented Lightning Head's 30mm square component range is what establishes Universal's platforms as industry benchmarks. It allows the introduction of new products without head or module swapping, providing a significant advantage as product mixes increase. The Universal Instruments booth will also highlight additional design aspects that help to maintain the highest possible throughput and utilization in practical manufacturing situations.
