General Cable's Marion, Indiana, Manufacturing Facility Receives INDUSTRYWEEK's Best Plants Award

As One of the Best Manufacturing Plants in North America

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY – General Cable’s Marion, Indiana, manufacturing facility has been named a winner in INDUSTRYWEEK’s 2014 North America Best Plants Competition. The Best Plants Award recognizes world-class facilities in North America that perform with excellence in terms of increasing competitiveness, enhancing customer satisfaction and creating stimulating and rewarding work environments. General Cable’s Marion plant will receive its award during a ceremony and celebration planned for March 24, 2015.

To have the award presented to the Marion plant is especially significant because the General Cable team successfully executed a major turnaround at the facility. Today, INDUSTRYWEEK has designated the plant as a pacesetter in manufacturing performance. The plant manufactures industrial and specialty cables for renewable energy, oil gas, mining and commercial building markets.

“General Cable is proud to receive this award recognizing the Marion manufacturing team, who was also recently recognized as Plant of the Year in General Cable’s annual operating excellence award program,” said Greg Lampert, President and Chief Executive Officer of General Cable Americas. “Our employees effectively collaborated to continuously improve performance, particularly in the key areas of productivity and safety. This INDUSTRYWEEK Best Plants award affirms their efforts as compared to other manufacturers.”

“In 2014, the Marion employees achieved great productivity measures without compromising safety. In fact, they have gone over three years without incident,” said Mark Thackeray, General Cable’s Senior Vice President of Global Manufacturing and North American Operations. “I’d like to thank Marion’s Plant Manager, Lee Sneed, and the entire Marion team for helping General Cable to continue its strong heritage of manufacturing excellence.”

Since 2001, 14 of General Cable’s plants have been selected as finalists in the INDUSTRYWEEK competition and 11 of those plants achieved the Best Plant title. The complete list of winners and an in-depth profile on General Cable’s Marion plant may be found at:
